hey there everyone,

im trying to get back into painting and converting miniatures again. recently i picked up a huge box of new, used, and broken, warhammer orc and goblin bits so im going to be slowly but surely working on projects to try to build my skill back up. im posting because i would love to hear any constructive comments crits, or feedback :)

anyway, the first major project that im starting is a conversion of a warhammer giant to have a bit more of a japanese oni feel. so far ive just added hair and a beard.

I like the addition of the beard, I think it ooks too combed and not wild enough. Maybe bring it down more in line with the chin? Same for the hair too I guess, but then that is just the way I would do it. I don't know what your plan is.

thanks for the input chad. i totally agree.

ive never used milliput or green stuff before, all of my previous experience with sculpting is with super sculpy and ceramic clay... so i didnt know what to expect. so far ive found that the milliput is more like old chewed bubble gum and only good for building volume. so as of now, my plan is to add green stuff on top to sculpt the stuff that is going to be more dynamic.

Okay, that sounds like you are on theright track. I have never had luck with milliput, so I am alwaysimpressed when others do. I just use it to build volume. But good luck, I am looking forward to seeing how you handle this fella.

i would say im passable... or compitent... not great. but again, ive only used sculpey... as far as i understand, green stuff is far less forgiving because it sets pretty quickly...

i check out your painting, though, looks great! do you always paint your pieces before assembly?

It depends on the mini. For the chariot, or a banner or something I do. And if a weapon obscures detail I will leave it off. I only paint for competition, so I go the extra mile, for a basic tabletop army I would never do that. But when you get to painting this fella I will help any way I can.
