I hope the kids in Africa who don\'t get their food/medicine/shelter at least understand that the charity needed to keep its integrity intact.

Ugh. If Hitler and Saddam appeared from the grave hand in hand to give me money for a charity I was responsible for I would take it in a heartbeat. Frustrating to hear of an organization so bull-headed it\'s willing to let the central reason for it\'s existence (Raising money to help those in need) be swept aside by an artificially induced set of illogical standards.

Can we imagine those being helped turning away the medicine if they found out it came from a DnD convention?

Sounds like someone rolled three \"1\'s\" for their INT stat.....

Hmmm. If I was a charity, I would concerned about the money I was given if I thought it might have been stolen or obtained in any illegal manner. As such, I would look damn hard at Hitler and Saddam before I took their cash. I would NOT be in the slightest bit concerned about taking money that was specifically donated to a my cause by people who were informed as to where it was going and who were happy to give it. That\'s what I can\'t understand here. A lot of well-meaning people queue up to give you cash, and you spit in their faces? Definitely agree with 3 1\'s for INT!

What airhead and Evil Tendencies said.

As a Christian, I find this utterly asinine. Though I will say that one need not be a fundamentalist to be ignorant.

...says the fundamentalist lol

Nuh uh. A solicited donation need perhaps be wary of where they go looking for donations. Any money coming in that has been unsolicited needs to be accepted, considering what it is you need to do with the money. I\'m not saying integrity isn\'t important in this world, but any moral dillemna regarding the source of funds needs be weighed against what those funds represent, in this case the funds are being used to sustain life. Bottom line. So my call if I\'m in charge is take whatever money comes to us regardless of the source. My personal moral compass doesn\'t matter when it comes to keeping other people alive.

But we all agree that the morons have done their own charirty an enormous disservice. 17,000 is a lot of cheddar, I can\'t envision what that could provide for the truly needy.

Nail. Head.

Kevin you know my stance on religion. But it\'s people like you who restore my \"Faith\" in humanity when the well named \"hippochristians\" start trying to be \"Holier than Thou\".
In effect its bitterly ironic that they are rejecting a donation when so many people who attend are little more than children themselves. One quote \"Suffer the Children\".

 Ok, I know Children suffering is one of my worst trigger/knee jerk reaction issues so please excuse me while I go kick a tin can rather than a person.

wtf! I just couldn\'t believe this when I read it. For a charity they\'re not very charitable. Damn it all it\'s not their money to turn away it belongs to the kids. Not a very \'Christian\' attitude but maybe they\'re just religious, the two don\'t always go together.

Or am I missing something in my old age? ???

James 1:27 - A religion that is pure and stainless according to God the Father is this: to take care of orphans and widows who are suffering, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Pretty simple.............

I think that the spelling of it there indicates Christian horses...

Maybe Hypochristians? Hypocrite, not Hippocrite :D. Saying that, there was a feller called Hippocrates. Nothing to do with this conversation though lol

Wow, this story is insane.

I just can\'t believe that they would refuse a donation due to the fact that people play a game.

I guess we all just need to get in a cicle and hex that stupid foundation. :flame:

Aihead, thanks for pointing this one out. That has got to be one of the stupidest things I\'ve heard recently in a LONg list of stupidity. I would love to know which charity it was so that I can make sure I don\'t taint them with my dirty money. :flame:

I didn\'t realise this was still such a big issue! And how sad that a charity would give up money donated by well-meaning people because of something that is, frankly so inconsequential.

This site tells you which charity it was and which one the donation ended up going to instead.

theres always the chance that the charity themselves have no quarrel with D&D, but cannot appear in any way linked with it.
If they were to appear linked to it, some of the extreme right wing american Hyppocristian churches (the kind that think of non-cristians as evil and really do think that D&D makes you worship the devil) might pull their funding, losing the charity millions of dollars.

I don\'t disagree with your statement and believe that may be the case, but it just goes to further illustrate the insanity of the situation to me. I would like to see a group photo of the people who would have been directly affected bya 17,000$ donation, and send that out as a Christmas card to the organization in question and to all the groups who would not further aid a charity for it\'s association with the root source of the donation in question.

Sickening to me actually.

If it is truly against their conscience to accept the money (whether their reasons are thought to be good or not, warranted or based on ignorance) then they shouldn\'t take the money, nor should anyone chide them to take it. It\'s similar to the situation in Romans where some Christians would not eat meat sacrificed to idols (or some any meat at all) even though it didn\'t matter that it was, it was still just meat. Paul said they were weaker members but don\'t make them violate their conscience.

I would have had no problem accepting the money were I in their place, but I\'m not in their place.

Well I still disagree. Putting your own personal morals on the line for a decision that affects yourself is great, that\'s what makes people good people and not hippochristians etc.

Takikng your moral values and using them to hinder the aid of those in need is awful. I\'m sure some could extrapolate the argument to show instances that even I would agree with not taking the money but it\'s still very, very innapropriate to not take 17g\'s worth of aid money in this instance.

I just want to see the person who made this decision stand in front of all the people not recieving this aid and explain that they would have recieved some food and medicine, but we didn\'t want to take the money from \"bad\" sources to help you.

Personal morals are great, but I personally am willing to make WIDE allowances to my own guidelines when decisions are not being made for my personal gain or advantage.

Wow. I\'m speechless.

Anyway I don\'t have time to rant on my feelings toward this misguided charity group. I just painted a pentagram on my livingroom floor. I plan on summoning a Demon using my Monster Manual and Players Handbook. My goal is to siphon it\'s power and unleash plague and chaos across the mortal world. Wish me luck.
