I wanted some killa kans for my orks, but i don\'t really care overmuch for the GW KK minis. Thus, I decided to build my own. This is the first of (hopefully) a fair number.

Comments, crits, ideas?

lookin good, main point I see is the claw is a bit weedie at the moment needs a lil bulk added mainly right at the joint of the claw, needs a housing there that would contain all the workin bits that make the claw do its thing. Only other bit that sticks out is perhaps shifting the body forward a bit at the angle he\'s at now it looks like he\'s falling backward.

good work a squad of these fellas will be a swank sight :D

@ recoil: Well, it is piloted by a grot, and thus would be \"weedy\", IMO. The bottom of the can is still open because I haven\'t taken the time to cap it (sheepish grin)

@Friar: I see what you mean, I will see what I can do.

Aye to that. I have already beefed them up a bit, and should have pics up tonight. I have also added a bit of cowling to the claw mechanism, making it a bit more \"realistic\". Some random tubing and more rivets have also appeared on the chassis.

I for one love it. I think the only thing is what was mentioned, a bigger claw next time and may be some rivits, lots of them. I\'d make each one different, you know the old saying \"Orks are scavenger builders\"

Oh yeah. Different is the idea. This was kind of made on the fly, as he was mainly a learning experience and a dry run for Deff Dreads to come later. Also, I have fixed his position since I agree he looked like he was falling over. I should have pics up in a couple of hours tops.

EDIT:LINKY
I am too lazy do go get the image URL again, but new pics are there.

Well I still think the thing is fantastic, and so dynamic for a hulking can. It\'s a great idea and I can not wait to see more of them.

I\'m curious to see what the dreads turn out like.

DONT CAP OFF THE BOTTOM!!!! how about this.... a grot falling out of it. or coming out of it that is. like the one who has his hands covering his ears. or the snotling who is trying to keep himself from being sucked into the gun on that new fig.

what ya think?

and yeah, i still feel the middle needs to be a bit bigger. sorry :(

other than that it is rockin\'

I actually thought of that uber, but I am going to save it for the next model I think. Rememberm this was a learning experience, and learn I did. The next will be much better.

Lessons learned in application. I learned alot about scratchbuilding with Numbah Wun, so now we move on to Numbah Two, which took less than a day to make.

KillaKan201.jpg

You can see the pilot’s nose eeking out through the open window. I used a gnoblar head from the Ogre Kingdoms line from WFB for him. The ‘Uge Choppa is scratchbuilt and was an enormous pain to make. I learned a few shortcuts in its contruction, though. Next time it won’t take so long or be as inconsistent. The plate on top of the red dome may not stay, but I wanted to cover the hole that was there. I may plug it with a meltabomb or something. Any ideas? Comments? Crits? The last batch were very very helpful so keep them coming.

More pics of this WIP can be seen here

I like them, but I\'m not sure about the feet. Use thicker plasticard and maybe make the \"toes\" shorter.

Also, to save you on those plastic balls you\'re using for feet you might want to use ball bearings.

EDIT: One other thing. Try making the cables look like they\'re hanging instead of being stiff.

Looks great these are wonderfully orky and original my only comment would be to beef up them feet just glueing a wider piece of plasticard under the current toes would probally do it fine.

I\'ve been tempted to get a box of gnoblars seems the gnoblar bodies and fantasy goblin heads would produce a ruffly grot sized bugger, lol if you got gnoblar bodies handy any chance you could compair it to a grot see how they measure up, the fantasy goblin bods are just too beefy.

Keep it up can\'t wait to see more!:D

I agree about the feet, but I have already begun slapping paint on these fellers and beefy feet will have to wait til next go round ( I do want three after all).

For those who don\'t know (by reading my blog or checking my website) I have decided to do something a tad different with my orks. Dubbed \"Da Orange Krush\" by my LGS owner, they are possibly the most fun Ihave had since coming back to the hobby. For you fluff lawyers out there: just bite your tongues and paint your own orks green. These are my orks and they are orange. If you want the long backstory of why they are orange you can visit my site by clicking on my banner at the bottom.
Anyhoo, I decided to take a pic of everything I had done to date, so here they are:
FamilyFoto18Feb08.jpg

I am currently working toward 400pts for some combat patrol games when I am out of town two weeks from now (for a whole stinkin month!) and am pushing these fellers through at a rate I have never achieved before. Please note: They are to my tabletop standard and are not meant to be display pieces. But, they have been a hoot and hopefully will continue to be, as you have to paint a metric $#!*load to post a decent point count. Comments and suggestions are always welcome!

EDIT: I almost forgot, there are detail images here.

RE-EDIT: Since this thread started with the Kans, here they are:

orange orcs!!!!! GENIUS!!!

i\'ve only ever seen green orcs so this was interesting and i must say you have done a fantastic job.

I think the \'can\' of the KK could do with a little bit of fattening up.

THANKS

Thunderhawker, you have given hope and opened doors for all of those who have wanted to do non-green orks. Perhaps one day I can now do my pink-skinned ork army without (too much) fear of angry fluffamaniacs.

Seriously great work though, keep it up!
