Dangerous swim pin-up

Here is a little project I have been working on. She is one of Andrea's pin-up girls. She is an amazing sculpture that looks so much like the original art by Gil Elvgren.

Here is my start on her.

I have chopped off the diving board because I have a different scene in mind for her that looks like this.

Here I have the forms and the dams in place for my resin water. I'm going for a murky pond look to the water so I have added some color to it.

Here she is with the forms removed and how she looks at present. I still need to blend the hands into the stone and clean up the rough edges of the water. I'll probably do a once over with the brush on her to clean up any blemishes. Any ways let me know what you think of her so far.

Thanks for checking her out.

Had to do a double check on what the pose was actually going to be. My mind went somewhere else entirely. And that was going to be tricky!

Like it so far, but wonder if she worried she was going to stain that white suit in that dirty water. Perhaps that's why she wasn't actually in the water.

Get some green colours / flock etc on the water line of the rock. Great work.

I see you managed to stop the resin from leaking out - something I fail at last time i did a water effect. :(

Trystan go check the pin-ups, they are awesome. Which ones do you have? My hotline figure just came in so I am itching to paint her now.

PegaZus, the dirty water and the clean white suit is all part of the opposites in the scene. Not to mention her beauty compared to the nightmare swamp creatures ugliness. There's always got to be a story ;)

Thanks Krule. I worked it into the stone with some putty, once I paint it it will look like the rest of the stone.

Thanks 10. I'm not done with her yet, so applying your suggestion will happen. I remember your water debacle. See that white putty in the pictures? That is a wax based clay that never hardens, it will dam the water perfectly. My only mistake was using too thin of a plastic card, the heat from the resin curing made it warp so my cube now has waves in it.

I'll get some more pics up tomorrow with the progress. Thanks for checking her out and commenting.

Milosh - I love that whole line. I've got Black Doggy. It's definitely a challenge to work on a much larger scale, but the minis are amazing.

That's a good one for sure. What is so amazing is how perfectly they have captured the original artwork. I'm going to paint more of them for sure. They aren't as hard as you think, afterall they are much smaller than that Cassar you painted :p

Lol good point. They're in a tough scale though that falls between obvious airbrush territory and obvious brush territory.

here's how she looks with her hands and remainder of the board blended into the stone. I've done a little more painting with ultra thin filters for smoothing of a couple areas. I'll paint the new stone tonight and start on the cleanup of the water and hopefully get her done by Friday.

Thanks for checking her out sand rat. I got the new rock painted last night and did some touch ups. I also re-painted the flowers on her cap as I just didn't like how mellow they were originally. Now I just need to clean up the edges of the water and then get ready for the one hour face painting comp that 10 ball is hosting. Let me know what you think of her so far and if you see any places I missed.

Like the way she looks - my only issue at this point, and I know its nit picky is the crispness of the edges of the water. And the way it appears to angle up slightly.

I am with you on that. That's what I mean when I say clean up the edges of the water. This always happens to me when I pour the resin water, it shrinks just enough while some clings to the form leaving that sharp edge. I just take a dremmel and sand it down flat then polish it a bit with fine sand paper. Thank you for the feedback sir.

Would it be possible to pour another coat to fill the gaps where the resin water has shrunk? I haven't used this material before but I have a few projects in my queue that I'd like to add water to. So if there's a reason that solution wouldn't work I'd be curious to hear it.

Figured you had a solution -

I don't know it that would work Bailey. The instructions say you can pour multiple layers but I've never tried it because I am afraid it would leave a visible line. In this case I would really be afraid since I added color to the water, it would be really hard to match the color exactly.

When you try using it I can't stress enough the importance of using clay or the like as a dam. This stuff searches for the path of least resistance to leak out. Just like water is really good at finding a hole in your roof.
