Dark Elves Dragon WIP - Finally Finished

I have just started working on a Dark Elf Dragon Lord using the High Elves Dragon Lord for the basic model.

I was thinking of changing the rocky outcrop that the dragon is leaping from to something else, the problem I am having is what to change it to??

I was originally going to sculpt a ruined wall but I have already used that idea on a previous dragon so I need some fresh ideas.

If you have any ideas even if they are quite elaborate please let me know as I want to do something special with this model.

Below is a picture of the dragon so you can see how his foot/claw currently attaches to the rocks.

Thanks

Maybe jumping from some ruined High Elf pylon or tower?
Maybe have him leaping from a wood stump?

I guess it depends on the theme of your army.

The two obvious ideas are either High Elf scenery (lighter colors, white rocks, etc) or Dark Elf scenery (really dark rocks and snow). That\'s a lot less work :D

The DE one could be modded up with chains, skulls, hooks, whatever your sick twisted Druchii mind can come up with.

carve out some of the high elf detail to break up the shape.. resculpt a bit of rock then add spikes chains flayed victims as suggested.. maybe a harpy eating a high elf corpse.... luuuurrvely

please ignore the paint pot it was helping to stop the model falling over.

Its only blue tacked so far so if you hate it nows the time to speak up :)

My idea is that the dragon has swooped down over the battle field and has grabbed the high elf off his horse (see the mouth) then on its way past it also has grabbed the horse in its claw.

I know that at the moment the dragon is way to close to the ground so amd planning on raising up the side where the horse is.

Let me know what you guys think.

Hey I like it! I think the direction you are going works very well. Reminds me of a scene out of LOTR where the Nasgul (I think that is the flying creature) drops out of the sky to attack a bunch of riders.

Maybe you can add some girth to the base and make it look like the rider was fighting the dragon next to a cliff edge? Then the scene can be a bit more ambiguous and leave the viewer questioning whether or not the dragon will eat the rider or drop him off the cliff edge :)

its probably be alot of work but I like the idea of DE being raiders so maybe with that theme in mind having the dragon perched on the bow of a vessel

Thanks for the ideas guys.

I would like to keep him usable for gaming so i am a bit limited on the size I can make the base, with this in mind i have decided to stick with the horse being grabbed by the dragon.

I have put the horse at an angle to try and make it look a little more dynamic as if the dragon has grabbed him as he is flying by, does this look silly ?

I had to reposition the dragons right leg as it was in the way of the horse, this is the first real attemps i have made a using green stuff so i appologise if it looks rubbish.

The base is only in the early satges and I will be adding much more to it soon.

Finally I have done a bit of work on the rider, he is the model from the high elves dragon lord box set but I am in the process of making him more dark elfish, I have given him a hooked sythe like the new dreadlord models and have given him a whip like the beastmasters use. Still got a long way to go with him but its a start.

here\'s the new pics:

That\'s come out really well! I really like the grey-blue colouring of the dragon- very unique and makes him look almost glowy from some angles. The only suggestion I would make is to give those armour plates on the dragon a wash of some kind. They look a bit flat compared to the rest of the piece.

I was not a big fan of this particular dragon model. In fact, I didn\'t like it much at all to be frank (the sculpt and pose I mean), none of the GW dragons really. But putting the model in the middle of a meal here has really brought it to life for me. I\'ll admit, I\'m tempted to buy the model now. I just wanted to give you kudos for what I think is a very cool idea.

Cheers
