DarkWind's WIP - Forgeworld Venerable Dreadnought

Hi all! First post here. I\'ve decided to start a WiP thread and show my work. I\'m currently working on my first 54mm miniature - the White Wolf mini from Andrea. I\'ve been a fan of the Witcher since it came out, and was gobsmacked when I discovered Freeman was sculpting Geralt. Anyways, I ordered it and it arrived a few days ago. I have finished prepping and priming and am about to start painting.

Check my gallery for a couple of my other minis. I\'m mainly into painting LotR, though I have a few Darksword GRRM minis lying around, one of which I\'ve painted...

So... on to pics:

Updates should come tomorrow or the next day...

welcome, your LOTR minis look very nice. This guy should be a good place to showcase your skill. I am also a big Witcher fan and will keep an eye on this wip.

I am currently having trouble finding my camera charger, but as soon as I have it I\'ll post new pics. I have the hair done and the whole mini is basecoated, but not much progress otherwise...

In other news I finished one of the new Darksword hedge knights and the other is in progress, pics will come of those too.

The white and the metallics are my favorite part! Are the metal nmm? The tubing and soft armour part, how are they done?

Yep, its NMM. I think it photographs better, so I\'m switching to use it instead of metallics. The soft armour and tubing is done like this:

Base: Chaos Black
1st HL: Adeptus Battlegrey/CB 50/50
2nd HL: AB

So, next one is almost done. Just NMM and gems to go. I\'ve also started on a sternguard veteran. (lovely sculpts to paint btw)

Would you mind doing a step-by-step tutorial on your red and white? Or maybe just the recipes? I\'m going to be doing a DIY chapter in basically that color scheme in reverse.

The red and white look excellent. Love those marines. The first guy\'s face looks great too. I\'ll second the request for red/white recipes :

Thanks for the comments. I had almost decided not to post anymore updates due to lack of comments, but there you go...

Anyway, I use a bit of layering and a bit of blending on my minis. For the white, I start with codex grey and work it right up to skull white on the prominent areas. For the red, base with GW mechrite, black wash, recoat mechrite leaving the wash showing through between armour plates etc. then add increasing amounts of bubonic brown for the highlights and wash with thin Baal red to shade. The last pic does not reflect the true colour of the red as much as the first marine I put up. That\'s it really, not at all complicated.
