David Gemmell has passed away

This might not be the best timing with the ongoing Red Fish thread, but this will be sad news to many of us who enjoyed his writings and the escape and enjoyment his sharing of that gift gave us. He was the only author who ever made me feel the way I did when I discovered Conan thirty years ago. I will open my last bottle of mead in his honor.

Far out I didn\'t even know he was ill. Thanks for posting that, one of my favourite authors. I just got Troy the other day.

Gutted, just gutted. The man is a Legend, the only one to make me laugh and practically cry in one turn of the page, will be sadly missed, my condolences to his family.

Can\'t say I READ Conan, but the surname rang a bell when I saw it...

Did he ever co-write any of those fantasy books where you have to choose which page to go to next...?

I have just got into the Gemmell books and just finished Legend.
Oddly I finished the book on Friday morning which is when he died.

Legend was that good I now have several others of his lined up ready for my holidays. Fantastic storytelling.

Damn, that is tragic news indeed. Gemmell has been one of those authors who I could always count on to provide consistently good reading. Damn I say.

You should check out Wolf in Shadow. Now that is a fantastic read.

Man that sucks.

I\'d better complete my collection of his books then, only got a few to go.

The Jon Shannow books were also excellent, but Waylander stands out as my favourite.

His Waylander books were my favourite. Damn shame. I always looked forward to the release of his books. His story\'s may have been of a familiar format, but they never failed to deliver a consistently enjoyable read. Personally I don\'t think I have read many other authors work that I enjoyed as much as Gemmell\'s.
