DAZ Studio is addicting..... be warned.
I downloaded it last year with the idea of helping with my painting, and it is great for that, once you get the hang of the program enough to get things lit like you want and posed like you want.
I\'m setting up a piece currently as a reference for the nude Sophie from Reaper, just a matter of finding the right bits for her sword and stuff. It is really helpful when you are wanting to do strange skin colors and interesting lighting.
I\'ve got a link in my sig to my web page, the \"digital paintbrush\" link on the left in the main gallery has some things I have done with D|S.
Also (no I\'m not to proud to do this) if you take the link from my sig or my site to DAZ to check them out or sign up I get a small commission off of anything you decide to actually spend money on for the next 90 days.

Mick Aiko 3.0 is a free download as well, having just spent the last couple of hours looking through the galleries I would be interested to see what you come up with.

Thats a little render I did with Aiko and a Zombie with a street model. Also tried some funky b movie lights.
I started messing with this program when I got the first Imagine FX mag. Daz was free on the dvd with all the free content. There is a nation of free stuff available and I figured out how to use it pretty quick.
Be warned though it is very addictive and I spent a fortune on models etc for it.
I mainly use it now for sculpting reference to try out poses. I have the main models with the muscle maps.
I pose these as the sculpts would be and it gives a nice picture of muscle placement etc.

Nice idea with the muscle sculpts I have to re-pose an arm and these would come in very handy.
I\'ve got the program too and I\'m using it for the same reason Klute does. I also have the muscle map but for the more average type of person. Haven\'t done much rendering yet. I\'d love to do more 3D digital stuff but haven\'t had the time yet.
Do note that the program also handles Poser models. So you\'re not limited to the models on the DAZ site but can also use those on, for instance, rederosity (http://www.renderosity.com/) and other poser sites.

Yep i got daz after Klute told me about it in another thread...cheers Mark. 
Its really good for sculpting reference but I\'m not sure about using it for painting. You might be better of doing a little research looking at images on the net for colour schemes rather than trying to learn a program like this.
