Dazed and Confused

Yeah, the best painting could be seen during the late 80\'s! As Rev has said, all those pages of expertly painted figures etc. I also liked the way that old and new figures were shown together as well. These days it appears to be pretty much only the most recent figures that get shown off. All advertising I suppose.

Anyone remember Steve Mussared\'s green felt backing that he used to stick on the underside of all his bases? You wouldn\'t see that these days!

Strange how 2D painters never really pic up 3D painting. A couple of GW artists had models in WD and they were never too perfect. Though conversly I\'m no Constable when I\'m faced with a canvas! Swings and roundabouts I guess. :D

Don\'t bank on the articles in White Dwarf being gospel. I\'ve noticed a couple of articles that the colours stated as used, do not give the same end result as photographed. The case in point is the Warg Attack set from LOTR Two Towers. The colours stated were seriously different from those depicted on the Box & in the Magazine and I was doing those for my local store.

Now I will admit that the painters will probably be referring from memory and will probably miss out certain steps, but if you are trying to emulate the exact colours or method then I can understand the frustration.

In the majority of the articles the suggestion seems to be that there are only three or four highlight stages. Having seen some of the mini\'s first hand, there\'s a lost more work gone into the showcase figures from which the photos are taken, that the number suggested.

The majority of the figures on here will no doubt exceed the old three stage highlight which is fine for RAF, but not for showcase work which we are trying to attempt.

Good grief that reads as discouraging which it is not meant to be. Enjoy the hobby.

I think it\'s a lot easier to just say that something was painted \'testicle pink\' (no it doesn\'t exist lol) when writing an article than explain the six colour mix that was actually used. Also if a painter happened to use an old pot of paint or even god forbid, a non-GW brand, then it\'s a lot easier for them to find the nearest current GW comparison and say they used that! Same thing happens at Foundry. Most of the stuff I painted for them was done using GW colour.

I was never put off by the high standards I used to see in WD. It just made me try harder to get to that kind of standard! As long as a new painter does their best, enjoys it and still wants to make the next figure look even better than the last, that\'s what counts!
