He is the master of metallics! I wonder if the robe is done or not. The freehand seem a little to subtle.

Well, guess that makes my life ever so slightly more difficult being that my main entry for this year is also for 40k single. Guess I\'ll just have to work that little bit harder
Admittedly I haven\'t even finished the conversion of this entry yet. Probably the most technical conversion I\'ve ever attempted on a metal fig. Taking ages too. For a metal fig he\'s very green so to speak
As for the robe I\'d say Jakob wont change much, if anything. Red photographs pretty badly so it\'s probably looking much nicer than it does in the pic. And GD isn\'t judged by looking at photos.

Wow, really nice mini. I like the robes the way they are, i think a more subtle freehand is better on clothing.
And I might be dreaming, but I have the strong impression I saw this mini a willa go, well it wasn\'t painted but I clearly do remeber seeing the completed conversion a good will back.

I don\'t think that is especially the case. I imagine the judges could pick out Jakob\'s work from the crowd even if they didn\'t have prior knowledge. I know I could.
As for automatic qualification, why would he get that? I\'ll admit that the chances of this fig not making the first cut are comical but that\'s because Jakob is a great painter/modeller, not because his name qualifies him automatically.
If you mean qualification as in \'he gets a demon\' then I sincerely doubt his name would get him a demons. He entered three categories last year. Only one of his entries placed (though it did win the sword so I doubt he complained).
I know most of the regular demon winners in the UK and I\'ve seen pretty much all of them fail to place with entries before.

guess the anonimty (spe. ?) can\'t really be applied then. As for known artists to get better chances because they are known, I think it\'s quit possible. Even if the judge don\'t do it in purpose they have that small voice in their head that says jackob nielson --> very good.
Just look at some known artist on CMON once they get well known they seem to have better score, even if they submit minis that are somtimes below their top level.

and that\'s my point exactly,i don\'t mean he will win just because he is jacob nielsen but every judge will pick his model and let it make first cut,even though some of his entries last year didn\'t make it,he will try and avoid making that mistake again,by showing people his models (on games day,and on his website),he will get known even better and his models will be seen and rememberd,that and he has a very unique painting style,...don\'t get me wrong i\'m not bi*ching about jacob i love his work and hope to see him do well this year,but i\'m just saying his chances are always very high indeed and i\'m just implying that he doesn\'t win all the time because of his painting,it\'s a good deal of stratagie that does it for him to.

well, all I have to say is this....all the people that say that the UK Demons are predictable/fixed/liable to biased judges because of the \'Usual suspects\' being known to them(in this case Jakob, Joe and Matt), you think you can do better....bloody prove it. alan did, you do it. The reason why these people win so many trohpies/swords is because their work is the epitomy of what GW is looking for, some of the best painters in the world. The judging isn\'t biased, these people win because they\'re the best. So I will say it again, bitching? You enter in a category like 40k single, try to win something with 300 entrants entering against you.....about a 4th olf those very good! Jakob is one of the best painters in the world not because he\'s got mates on the \'inside\', but because his work\'s got soul....deal with it.

Don\'t listen to Tammy, she\'s already paid off the judges. She\'s got Gold but for the Slayer Sword she got outbid by Matt Parkes who wants a fourth. I was tempted to put up more money after a successful year from Spyglass but in the end I settled for a chance at a bronze for no money. Bronze places, and occasionally silver, are actually competed for in order to give the illusion that the demons aren\'t completely fixed in a sit-down tea and biscuits meeting four weeks prior to the event (they had some very nice custard creams this year although I chastised Dave Andrews for forgetting the chocolate bourbons).
