Death and Alternate Realities

I'm not religious, that's for control of the masses by the few. All written by mankind not by any God.
I do believe we are more than what we see, the flesh and bone. Re-incarnation? maybe, or just the process of progressing up the ladder of existence to be a better person/being. Hell, after 4000 years or so I'm still trying - but I'm rather fond of this little world in the vastness of the universe. Guess I'm not ready to stay in the next dimension yet :)

You forgot the most obvious possibility regarding death. You die, you're dead.

That's the philosophy I personally subscribe to:)
x4.

Scary prospect, but there you go; that's why there are all these comforting mythologies that things go on in some form or another.

Yep me too.[/QUOTE]

On the contrary Jim, if anything its more comforting to know that all the cant and hypocrisy means nothing, and its what you do here and now that matters.
The primary ethos that christianity is based around, also know as the golden rule ie treating everyone equally, is sound and as a principle to live towards is a fine aim.

The concepts of heaven, hell, sin and redemption are all about mind control and fear tactics for mass control of a populace, nothing more.

Well, just for the record, I was only making a joke regarding Finn's 'subscription'....so I thought Nihilistic Digest sounded a better magazine title than Atheistic Digest. But, yeah, I guess it didn't make as much sense.

I don't know what the hell I believe, but I do know it changes quite often, sometimes daily. Agnostically cautious maybe?

On a more serious note, I'm leaning towards the "the end is the end is the end"-thesis, but whether that is the ultimate truth or not, well, I'll find out sooner or later. I'm pretty convinced that if there is some kind of supreme being/s or deity/ies out there then they wouldn't care the least about how I make my bed in the morning.

Oh, that's just because of that cam you've got above our wardrobe... Hope you enjoyed the show last night, I know I did!

The bit where you tried to make her turn off the lights due to a bout of self conciousness and the resulting "man the f*ck up" was rather entertaining. By that point I lost all sense of interest and direction and left it streaming on youtube while I went to find another beer. Which didn't help matters....Too much beer is like too much oil on a gyroscope...

I will have my day, Gravity. You always strike when I least suspect it, but i've found a pattern in your attacks, and it always seems to be when you think i'm suitably drunk enough to take advantage of my good nature...
It's only a matter of time before I defy you completely...

So why a scary prospect?
As death is such a natural thing and we all get there sooner or later, why are we scared?
Having had an "all systems stopped" moment, I've accepted that I've no choice in the matter.
That's lead me to lose the fear of being dead and to learn to live a bit more, doesn't mean to say I'm ecstatic at the prospect of going "Toes Up", but its not something I'm gonna lose sleep over either.

I actually find the prospect of death to be a very comforting thing.

I obviously intend to postpone it for as long as possible, providing that doesn't involve jogging and living on a diet of lettuce and tofu...but otherwise....:)

The thought of hanging around for all eternity would be my personal idea of Hell...if I believed in Hell.

Yeah, Imagine if that pile of lead would just continue to grow! We hobbyists need to die, imagine what 1000+years worth of lead collecting could do to a house...
