Demigryph alternatives

Don't know if this is the right place or not but here goes. I'm making an Asian themed empire army and trying to come up with alternate mounts for Demigryph knights. I just can't find anything. Anyone have any ideas about this??

Perfect claws, You would have to get some lion heads some where. I see tubes of plastic african animals that might be the right scale at the local chain hobby store. Looks like there is a brisk market on ebay... go figure. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/lion-toys-plastic

And then add some chi balls in their claws and you are set!

Although that might be a lot of conversion work.
