Desert Tallarn Leamn Russ

One I\'ve been working on for a few months and am happy to have it finished. Really enjoyed making and painting it and was a fun way to learn and practice weathering techniques - I was going for a dusty worn out look. I found the Ultrawerke tutorials invaluable for this project and most of the techniques used came from there.

this is a very gritty and realistic take on the Russ, well done. Your limited pallette would suit a tank in a diorama well I feel, blended with the arid wastes of some forsaken planet somewhere.

As for developmental points, have a look at Rocketandroll\'s GD winning Vanquisher. You see the stripes he put on? see how they really pull the model together because of how they give the hull re-defined shape? Maybe you could think of something like that. Depends on personal preference of course, and I\'m not saying that doing that will get you up to his standard (the vast majority of us are no where near his standard!), but it may be worth a look (o:

I like the russ, you\'ve done a top job with the weathering.

My only quibble is that nothing seems to stand out too much on it, no focal points etc. It seems too blend in together.

Personally i think the baggage should be a little different, as it looks as though its made from the same material of the tank due to you highlights. Maybe if you had used the weathering on it but had tried to make them look leather/cotton etc.

Also i dont think the parts you have done black have enough depth, they seem quite flat like the gun muzzles and vents. Maybe adding a slight oxidization may have helped, wappelinous (not 100% on the spelling there) has some good quick techniques for that.

I hope i dont sound to harsh but i have tried to be as critical as possible so you next one kicks even more arse.

Its a real sweet job

lovely piece with some great weathering. i agree with cleezy though, tha it could do with some focal points

Thanks for those comments. I really agree with the focal point. Once I put the tracks on I realized it would be a problem as there isn\'t really any room for designs or free hand. I tried to add some colour. Focus with the number on the side but it looked out of place not weathered. I\'ll add a tank commander/gunner out of the turret in future, that will add some contrast and focus I think.

That is a good idea, but I\'m not sure how to do that.
I would want to go with canvas or something coarse.

I paint my thumb.

Anyway, great job with the weathering, very realistic.

That is a good idea, but I\'m not sure how to do that.

I feel getting a look of material with paint can be really difficult. Especially something such as canvas.

an idea could be too wrap them in small strips of canvas to give the texture. Hand painting it would be very time consuming tbh.

I like the number on the side, it goes really well with the rest.

A tank commander etc would give some focus.

Will you be doing any more of these?or anything similar?is it part of an IG army?

Thanks for the notice, fixed it now.

Cleezy: Texturing is a good idea, but Most materials would be too thick, I might try some puttty or something. And yes, I do hope to do a few more Leman Russ\' or some other tanks, maybe a small force.
