Firstly there won't be any pictures by myself for a while. I'm a long way off from putting brush to miniature.
Having come back to painting, modelling and playing 40k, I'm getting a Death Korps of Krieg Imperial Guard army, looking at mechanized infantry so plenty of tanks along with the troops.
I'm torn between an urban and a trench theme for the army.
Trench means primarily using these bases:
Colourscheme for trench to me suggests a dark green, feldgrau or pea camo (probably using greenstuff to do smocks over a dark green basecoat). The downside with trench is that I'm less than keen to do an excessive amount of mud on my vehicles. I think the bases are great but the theme would demand a lot of mud and I don't want to go that route (weathering yes, excessive mud no).
Tanks would probably be WWII three colour camo scheme, possibly a dark grey but I'm not sure how well that would look with the mud of the trenches.
Urban means using these:

Urban theme suggests grey-blue or feldgrau. The downside on the urban bases is they'll be a lot more work in painting them because of all the extra detail and contrasting colours (rusty metal, red bricks etc.)
Tanks would be a three-colour grey scheme, light-mid-grey-blue akin to the ones seen in the FW model masterclass book.
My other option is to do a mix of the two using snow or mud to blend them together. My hesitation with this is that an all snow themed army (15+ vehicles, 60+ infantry) is going to add a lot to the amount of work and time everything takes.
In essence I'm looking for some feedback or advice on options I might not have thought to (not totally different themes, so I'm not going to do a lava theme for example).
Overall feel I want is realistic (am using VMC and will be doing a lot of airbrushing) weathered troops and vehicles. I do feel that a mix between the two has a lot of potential but am stuck on how to blend the bases together without using snow or lots of mud. Hence coming here for some advice and help.
