Digicamo-ed Valkyrie

A first attempt at digicamo using Artool stencils. I've kept the weathering in check in order to get the look of a vehicle returning from a mission. This is my vehicle tabletop standard as I have 3 other Valks/Vendettas to apint, it isn't intended as a display piece.

I ran into several problems:
- assembling the vehicle before painting it: this made using the stencil much trickier. The next time I'll mostly paint panels and fins before assembling them.
- shading and highlight on the flat panels: the panels could benefit from them, but it would then make the camo more difficult to apply. I've yet to find a suitable answer.
- varnishing the windows: I guess I should have known this one ^^

Check for looking, feel free to leave comments!

could you add gloss to the windows? that might help

a filter may help with a little of the shading on the panels

it's nice to see the problems you ran into to help others when trying there's

a lovely model

What are these stencils you're talking about?

Anyhow, this is damn impressive for your 'tabletop standard'. It's got a very cool battle-used look.

Only thing I see is to add some weathering (smoke) around the nose cannon (unless it is a laser?) and the missile pods.

I like it.

These are the stencils: http://www.medea-artool.com/artool/mini/KustomFX4.htm
They're targeted at the custom community first and foremost, but I've found them to be very interesting to use, and it pushes my technical skills and airbrush skills so that's quite cool.
I've used the digicamo one, I'm gonna have to try my hand at a scaly Eldar vehicle with the "gator" template one day ^^

Thanks for the comment. I've found out to be more of a vehicle painter than an infantry painter (I guess it shows in my ratings as well) even if I try to alternate both types of minis for the sake of improvement. Plus I really enjoy the progressive steps of weahtering one can do on a tank/flyer. It's actually kind of weird to realize the most time I spent (and steps I enjoy) consist in messing up and sort of ruining the pristine paint job... that must appeal to the child inside me...

The cannon nose is indeed a laser. I actually did use smoke pigments sparingly on the muzzle, it doesn't really show as the weapno is quite dark already. It's more of a negative thing: the edge highlight on the muzzle doesn't show as it is covered by smoke. Maybe that's something I should try to improve in order to get a more readble effect?
I, however, could figure a way to apply smoke effects on the pods without ruining the missile heads paintjob, which I quite like. I assume I should drill out some of the missile next time to have smoke where they've been fired, there's little point in "smoking" a pod that haven't fired, isn't it?

Thanks for the comments, keep it coming!

Just thinking with as weathered as the jet exhausts look that it would have had a few of those missile packs fired without a good washdown.

As the pack is a reload, the smoke would be on the wing above it and on the pintle mounts. Same with the autocannon (?) on the left wing mount. Mini-gun on the right cockpit?

Do a lens treatment on the front of the laser and the camera to make it stand out as "not a cannon".

I commented in your gallery, but I really like the look of this air ship. With the exception of the shape, it could pass for a military model. I would love to see the scaly Eldar tank as well, in fact I am now looking forward to it!
