Dioramas, how big is to big.

I'm going to be working on a Diorama for a painting competition, they don't seem to have any size restrictions for this category so i'm not sure what is a appropriate size? What i'm looking at now is a 8'' by 10'' plaque, that size keeps the scene from feeling to crowded, as there will be five Wyrd human minis spread out on it. If I have to I could maybe go 7'' by 9''.

This will be my first painting competition so wasn't sure of the etiquette of these things.

there is no such thing as too big :D
go with the one you can transport to the competition and that you can actually finish in time.

GW guidelines for their Golden Demon diorama category was a maximum size of 300mm sq - 12" x 12". Obviously other competitions will vary, but it is a good starting point

I think often the size restrictions for dioramas are based on the amount of space available to display them. If it's going into a display case, then it's got to be small enough to fit on the shelf. Your dimensions (8" by 10") don't seem extreme, so I'd guess that you'll be fine. But if you're worried then I'd suggest you contact the event organizers just to be sure.
