Directional Sunlighting

Hi there. I\'m interested in learning how to directionally light a model with sunlight, how to paint the effect of someone with half their body facing away from the light while the other is in full veiw of it, the contrast that happens usually down the centre line (particularly on the face as the nose forms a large barrier) and how to execute this on a model of only 28mm.

In particular my concern is on how to keep one side looking dark while not unfinished and the \"guidelines\" of painting the actual look of sunlight on any particular area (eg, from looking at pictures the obvious would be \"add yellow to the colours on the lit side\")

Any experience/thoughts/theory on such a matter would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks for your time

Basically, zenithal lighting, which many use constantly, is just what you are after with the direction in question being straight from above. I\'d suggest looking at photos of real people, studying colours of both lit and unlit areas. You can also light your primed mini from the desired direction and take a photo of it to use as guide to where to put shadows. Then just paint it!!

Look at paintings and illustrations, use them as a basis for how to tackle the effect in paint. Then just find photos of the real thing and use them as reference.
