Disaster Aid?

Between the earthquake in China and the Cyclone in Burma, I\'m guessing that aid money will be needed. I know that CMON users have raised money with their painting for disasters in the past - is anyone planning on doing that now?

It\'s a good thought, and there was a nice banding of painters and artists coming together for a cause.

BUT...it also caused alot of heartache and in fighting behind the scenes.

I\'d suggest to donate directly to your local charities (for instance RED CROSS), as it will be a more effective use of your money.

If anyone feels differently, then be my guest and head it up.

I agree with Vikey, I helped with one, painting a group of gobber or some sort of little creatures for an army that was auctioned off.

The biggest problem was the amount of time it took to buy army, divide and mail them out to single painters around the world. Wait for the minis to return, set up auction.

Even if everything goes smoothly you may be looking at months before you can send the moneys. The victims need it now, better to just write a check.

I suggest donating to your local Red Cross/Crescent Organization now. To run an event takes time and organization as as Vikey said it was a lot of effort. If you don\'t have the available cash to donate, paint and auction a figure on your own and then donate it. Money is needed now, not months from now which is how long it will take to organize things.

Heh, I knew it was a good idea to ask you folks. As for the solo auction, I think I can do that right away. Thanks!

aye, iirc, by the time the money had been donated, they had stopped taking donations or something silly like that, due to the overwhelming worldwide response

I sent money to UNICEF, who seem to be responding well under the circumstances (i.e. limited allowance for aid workers on the ground). They have apparently distributed school supplies and water purification stuff.
