Disney buys Lucasfilm, episode 7 in 2015.

So George Lucas wanted to pass on Lucasfilm to a new CEO and put it in a larger family for future protection.

He recieves 2 billion $ in cash and the same in Disney stocks and disney aquires all the lucasfilm companies.

A new star wars film, Episode VII is set for 2015 currently in writing.

So what are your thoughts?

Well for starters we will see star wars additions to the Disney Parks.

Well disney also owns marvel, and they just cranked out Avengers...sooooo.

Maybe we will get lucky and Joss Whedon will be the dude to direct episode VII

Hmm. On the one hand, what Disney did to Jim Henson's Muppets borders on the criminal ...

On the other hand, they have done some remarkably good things lately, and they could hardly do worse than Lucas himself did to the franchise with those wretched prequels.

This could be interesting.

Only problem is going to be if they use the existing characters......but different actors, due to the originals being ancient....god I hate that.

Otherwise they can't wreck it anymore than Lucas did.

Lucas has allready ruined star wars, so it can only go up from here.

In an interview on starwars.com lucas mentions the hundreds of novels and comics as possible future projects and that he has story treatments for episode 7-9 and other projects.

I see three ways to gonabout it:

1. They put it 50+ years intonthe future and feature a grandson of the Skywalker bloodline.
1. The focus on new characters post Rotj era.
3. They cant figure out a plot, Reboot the old movies witth new actors and do 7-9 after that.

OK, so now I've seen a lot of people bring this up and comment on it, with a lot of negative feedback provided by several voices, all saying that Disney is going to kiddify and neuter Star Wars. I have a few points to make to this...

1. D
isney can't kiddify Star Wars, George Lucas already did this when he released the prequel trilogy, and it was always intended to be a kids movie anyway.
2. George Lucas said he would never film episodes 7,8, and 9...But he also said he'd never do 1, 2, and 3, and he did those himself, retaining full creative control, and those movies were so stunningly accepted in reviews and by the fans.
3. The Empire Strikes Back was NOT by George Lucas, but by Irving Kirschner, with Lucas acting as creative control, (as he will be in these upcoming films) and it is widely recognised as the best film in the whole series by most fans.
4. Remember when Marvel was bought by Disney, ruined and destroyed, whilst being horrifically neutered for a child audience? I don't either! Instead Marvel's sales skyrocketed even faster and outsold DC on a regular basis, forcing DC to severely up their game both in storylines, products, and digital applications and comic issues just to keep up. Disney dragged comics kicking and screaming into the modern world.
5. You know the films "Iron Man" 1 & 2, "The Incredible Hulk", "Thor", "Captain America" and "Avengers Assemble", which were awesome, created a unified comic book universe on the big screen, breaking several box office records and giving Marvel Comics a whole ton of new and eager fans? They were by Disney...and they Rocked...and there was no singing and dancing mice, ducks or dogs in sight!

I think people are being far too negative about the whole thing, and the next person who says Disney is gonna ruin Star Wars is just gonna get me commenting in their statuses with this phrase...

Well for starters we will see star wars additions to the Disney Parks.

I think that the one in Florida does a Star Wars thing every summer. Light saber instruction, Dance off between everyone and Vader, and the comedy act of "Three Stomblades, and a Wookie!" in the main unit....

there has been a Star Wars ride at Disnelyland for as long as i can remember...
it was called Star Tours, and was awesome...
it and Space Mountain, both in Tomorrowland, were my favorite rides

whatever some may think of Disney, growing up so close to Disneyland was great...
we used to go meet girls, have crazy adventures, and even hang out at the outdoor disco at night...
i loved it, and now Disney's California Adventure is right next door, which has more intense rollercoasters, and Disneywalk has the Lego store, ESPNzone, House of Blues, and some great restaurants...
it is also right across from the Anaheim convention center where we had a short lived GenCon SoCal...

being a kid in L.A. was awesome, with Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, and Universal Studios Tours all so close together, it was like the ultimate playground...
so, yeah, i can't hate on Disney or Lucas Film, as they both made my childhood a ton of fun...

I'm mixed. I fear a return to Episode 1, but then Episode 1 was done by Lucas. I think as long as it's set in the universe, but not tied directly to the originals, we will be OK. Also, Disney is huge. And if the Marvel part gets the movies, we may be ok. If the Cinderella part gets it, well....

7 - 9 already exist, they are the "Thrawn" Trilogy and are recognised as the sequels.

Thanks and I'll give you that with the exception of THOR the Marvel movies have been very good. Apart from Natalie Portman THOR has nothing to recommend it.

I'd like to be more excited. For a start Lucas is no longer the bloke in charge. Odd that of all the people involved in Star Wars the prequels showed he just doesn't "get" Star Wars.

The thing preventing me dancing like an Ewok to this is just what they'll do for this Episode7. So many ways to upset folk.
There's 50+ novels set after the movies, those stories could be ridden roughshot over, ignored, diminishing their worth and relevance.
Would they lean more to the prequels overuse of CGI, with actors seemingly regarded as irksome but neccesary. Or return to the cinematography of the first films, with camera focus on what folk actually look at, people - with cgi and matte painting in the background and as many effects as possible done physically.
Depending on which stories they tell, who's gonna act in them?

So much potential for wrinkling of noses.

Will never get the same standard of movie as the originals, just because in 1977 nobody had ever seen anything like it before! Its as simple as that - the opening sequence of the star destroyer flying over the camera is a milestone it cinema.

In a danish newspaper today a few movie buffs and starwars fans discuss the possible future movies.

The majority thinks we will get films set in the knigths of the old republic era or some 200 years or so after the movies.

I'm kinda hoping for a reboot. Of the prequels. There's a vid out there (sorry, on phone so can't search easy) where a guy goes through what he thinks should have been done for TPM. Makes it an arc story centered on Obi Wan, & scraps a lot of the extraneous plot lines. I enjoyed his version so much, I keep forgetting that's not what the movie actually was.
