The lead character was far from one-dimensional... a protagonist with some massive flaws, whom the audience watches as he develops an entirely new sense of perspective and... well, transforms ( ). There will need to be a District 10, as I agree on your last point (the ending being slightly anti-climactic), which could only be remedied with a sequel.

My fellow Canadian, I agree to an extent about the main character, but ALL the supporters were very, very cookie cutter. I would have loved to have seen more of the lead alien as what little time they spent with him was great. I truly hope they use him as the lead in the sequel.

It\'s a tricky thing to do in a movie, to show those who don\'t get much screen time in a movie as being anything all that complex, but it\'s been done very well by other movies very recently. I think if they could\'ve thrown in even the odd doubtful glance at some of the orders given, shown even a moment\'s hesitation at some of the more bizarre circumstances in the movie it would\'ve been an A+ from me.

Very nitpicky, I liked it a lot. LOVED the sequence of going through the getto and dealing with the aliens initially. Pure gold!

I actually found a link for this, but it turned out to be district 13 which is a really excellent french action film with some fantastic free running scenes.

Ah... this is true. I was disturbed mainly by the militaristic (?) leader of MNU that pursued the lead throughout the film, as he actually did seemed very one dimensional, at least when compared to the man he was chasing. However, none of the other human characters played large roles in the film! It\'s likely the writer/s downplayed traits of the supporting cast to focus on the lead and Christopher the \'Prawn\'; that said, more work into developing and bringing a little bit of extra authenticity to the rest of the cast would probably benefit the film after all. You\'ve made me completely re-think the film! :beer:

I saw it last night and really enjoyed it.

The first part of the film was absolutely making a comparision to race relations, and the treatment of people \'beneath\' us.

This theme seemed to get lost as the film turned into an action flick about halfway through.

I enjoyed the lead character quite a bit.

I didn\'t quite understand why \"christopher\" seemed so much more advanced than the rest of the Prawns. If he could have fixed the ship, why did it get \'stalled\' originally? Were there more intelligent ones like him? Were the rest of them just mindless drones?

Lastly, I was slightly disappointed because of some of the advertisements I had seen before the movie.

They indicated that the \'government\' wasn\'t allowing them to leave, because they wanted the weapons to work. I really liked the idea that these creatures just \'want to go home\' but were not allowed to. However, in the movie, this wasn\'t played out at all.

But, overall, it was a quality Sci-Fi movie with a different feel.

Agreed! I was hoping for the government to exploit the aliens, then sort of slap their heads in an \"Oh shit! They are going home!\" kind of way and realize that they\'re an advanced alien race with weapons that put ours to shame and they\'ve been trated pretty poorly!

My take on it was that Christopher was one of the leader caste of aliens. I thought that because his dumb ass assistant who couldn\'t tell earth garbage from alien garbage was put to shame by Christopher\'s son, who could figure it out.

Yeah, my take was he was a leader as well....But, if he could have fixed the ship all along, with just some \'magical liquid\', why didn\'t he do that when they were first stranded?

Maybe the explanation is they all got sick, and that\'s when the UN..er I mean MNU intervened...

This movie rocked my world. I loved the way the prawns were portrayed, they didn\'t seem cookie cutter to me at all, instead they all had personalities, especially shown in the evicting sequence. I think Christopher was a smarter one, just as with humans, not all are geniuses. I thought the aliens were all suffering from malnutrition, and then forced into a \"camp,\" so it shows what a situation can turn anyone or anything into.
I thought there was just enough government testing and meddling shown to get the point across, without becoming a cheesy conspiracy flick.
As far as ripping off tau, I think their tech was a bit of a mix between Halo, anime, and Half Life, which I LOVED seeing on screen!!! It was a great seeing Wikus go crazy at the end! And it was shown too that even though the alien tech is superior, that it isnt invincible and can be taken down eventually.
This movie was super well done, one of my favorite sci fi movies of all time, a definite buy when it comes out on dvd!!

He started trying to fix the ship right away, but it took 20 years to collect enough of thr juice to get it all up and firing I think.
