Here\'s a DKK Comissar I knocked out tonight. Any thoughts? I tried painting the jacket using Model Air paints and I think it turned out OK.

I paint my thumb.
Nice work, I thing the jacket works fine. Maybe the pants need to be toned down and have more gradients, but I might have something to do with the picture.
A shot of the back would be nice.

So, how long did it take to paint this one ?

2 sessions, maybe 4 1/2 to 5 hrs total, wasting a lot of that time shooting the breeze with a couple buddies who were painting at the same time in my garage.

They\'re cool figs, and I have so many that need my attention. How long should it realistically take? Also, if you were to spend another session or two on this model, what would you focus on and improve, or what would you have done differently?

Thanks guys!

If i was you i would try and spend time doing more layers, so that the \"steps\" between the highlights are\'nt so obveous.

It looks tidy, which is good.

Also, not to sure on the colour of the trowsers (pants?), i would have used a colour somewhere already on the mini, this would help to tie it in.

Thanks Alex. The pants color is part of the army scheme, so i used it to keep him in line with the rest of the army. I\'ll take your suggestion on the next commisar I have to do. I think I got a couple more models in the box.

I wouldnt, it doesnt dry matt and could spoil it. If you are going to change it, do glazes (LOTS of water, tiny paint) to alter the colour.

What is this concept of going back? That thing is in the bag! Moving forward baby! Full speed ahead and all that.

When I get crits I ALWAYS take the info in and use it where applicable in the future but I could never go back and work on a model once done. I got tons more where that came from!

I actually quit doing WIPs here mostly because I was working too far ahead of the thread, by the time I would get great advice I was usually done the model and halfway done the next, and I started to feel like a turd because people were giving me GREAT tips and advice, but then I would just lumber on and it might have looked like I was ignoring the good people giving me the tips. I don\'t wanna be THAT guy who looks like he wants crits then doesn\'t act on them.

Just to show the new tech I used on this fig from past comments....

-Jacket, boots, and cap are all painted from a black base and then painted over to their brown or grey leather using Vallejo Model Air paint (very thin, way thinner then I am used to using) and it took about 15-20 layers each of two or three colors. Ripped off from Chris/Generul Poleaxe

-Pants (Or trousers as you crazy English would say....) were painted Vellejo Brown violet as a base and highlited adding VMC Buff to the mix over about 6 transitional steps. This was a general crit given to me over my last several models to make the transitions less stark in appearance. I previously would do pants and anything not \"flesh\" in about 3 color transitions. I think you even pointed out how stark some of my transitions were Alex on one model. I don\'t know that I was overly succesful in this attempt, but I am proud of how the knees of the pants were highlighted
-Metal on the sword came out a little better. I am POOR at metals and each model is a struggle to improve but the small amount of metal on this model saw me take more time to analyze where the highlights should fall. The pic is a little washed out so it\'s hard to tell but the metals do look quite a bit better then my previous entries.

And I am sure there are others. So I do act on the advice from members here, I just wanted to make that clear so if people give me a tip and don\'t see me use it please don\'t feel like it was a waste of your time! If someone were to post a message ripping the hell out of my paintjob and offering corrective measures (It\'s happened!) they\'re really doing me a favor and it\'s the main reason I started posting on this site.

Thanks to all for taking the time. The mini is at 7.2 right now and I am thrilled to see that! I want to hit a 7.5 this year and I really think I can do it. It just might take some extra time is all...
