Do I hate Space Marines?

I\'ve noticed that I consistently vote below the average score on normal space marines. I vote with the average hidden, so I\'m often above or below the average. But I\'ve noticed that I\'m always lower than the average on the (what I consider) table top quality space marines.

I haven\'t noticed this pattern with space marine special characters, just with the standard squaddies.

So am I a subconscious space marine hater, or has anyone else noticed the same trend in their voting?

I think it comes more from the fact that a lot of newbies start with a Space Marine.

If you haven\'t already, get a look at Cyril\'s or Kaple\'s gallery to see how extraordinary things can be done with ordinary Space Marines.

Hi

Well, maybe we are a little bored with Space Marines. To me the sculpts look more or less the same, and I am not really excited to see the 16522. servo-armour painted. So I think I have the same feeling when I browse through the CMON galleries : (Yawn) another Space Marine (yawn) lets skip this one...:D

The Emperor\'s champion is a great sculpt, so much that I\'ve bought a second one to paint sometime in the future. Otherwise, Space Marines are boring... Yes, Cyril\'s are awesome, but I much rather see that awesome painting on an equally awesome miniature. All in my very own humble opinion, of course... :innocent:

I am sure you are right...

To be honest, I must have seen a gazillion Space Marines, I have painted loads myself and I have many hundreds waiting to be painted. When I see a Space Marine therefore, it has to be really special to merit more than a 5 or 6.

I think one of the problems (or perhaps the annoyances) of scoring is that there is really no solid definition of \"table top\" that crosses genres. Differences in standards can be subtle depending on the genre and whether they are designed for solo or small scale / large scale unit deployment.

For example, suppose you see a mini of an elf. Suppose you see a mini of 20 elves. I think in general the 20 elves will score higher than the one elf, even though the one elf may be from the 20. (I disagree that they should be scored higher, but that appears to be the case.)

Finally there are those who vote the mini because of the mini itself and not the specifics of the paint/greenstuff/basing.

Well, if someone posts an elf that\'s a solid 7, and a whole unit of those, I\'d probably give the unit a 1/2 point higher, just because it\'s impressive to have a whole unit painted to a decent standard. A whole unit of 8\'s would get an 8.5-9. A whole unit of 9\'s... well, never seen THAT ;)

People usually find space marines bland. But I have found that done right, and you can make them jaw dropping. I don\'t mean raid your zombie and skeleton sprues, but really work on them. There is a guy on CMON who has a Flesh Eaters chapter on the site. It is amazing what he has done with them.

Anja\'s elves were in that league, Allan has done some pretty awesome Ogres, hell Eric\'s Sisters of Battle are cool, and right now in the top of the last 7 days there\'s an excellent Dark Angel command squad. I agree it\'s uncommun but it is doable ;).

Oh oh. I\'ve just started posting a Ultramarines force *gulp* Please be kind :D:flip:

Cyrils stuff is amazing.
One good thing about the sculpts of marines is they can easily be converted and if painted with the right painter (not me ;)) wonderful things can happen.

@greenstuff. Done :).

Maybe because of the vast amount of marines posted here the voter expects more. So users vote lower until something like Cyril\'s comes along. Its all Cyrils fault :D

i think Spacemarines are an open canvas, I really like the simple design and they are easily convertable. What I don\'t like are some sculpted versions of them...
