Can you look at a top painted model and say yes thats soandso\'s or are the top level painters using the same styles now?

You definitely can on many of the top painters. However I notice that some people that hold regular masterclasses or paintclinics, that their style and way of thinking with colours are becoming more common. But try to spot the different painters in a regular White Dwarf. Great fun! :) It is doable to a degree despite their style being streamlined. Another thing I\'ve noticed is that some people have a closer style then one might anticipate but that they use completely different way of taking pictures.

With the advantage of this site and others and having got great tips from some of these top guys I can say with confidence I can spot several painter\'s work without seeing their name. Either they have a style that is hard to compare (I think James Wappel/Wappelious is the easiest) to others or I have been lucky enough to recieve some advice from them and I can spot their work from seeing the techniques they\'ve shared with me put into practice. I can spot Ritual\'s stuff by seeing the Vallejo Black-Red in the flesh shading for sure (Thanks a million bud, it\'s a great tip!), Jarhead\'s stuff is pretty unique looking as well. There\'s other\'s but I think yes you can see some really unique styles still.

Avelorn is bang on about so many people using similar techniques I think though. They still manage to look pretty unique when finished!

I agree with this. My signature style is \'Why is he doing such horrible things
to that mini?\'

Yes, definitely. Not for everybody and not always but, for example, James Wappel (wappellious on COMON) and Sebastian Archer have very distinctive styles.

Hehe, I am not a top guy but I was looking through my display cabinet that my son rearranged yet again and I am not sure about style, but I definitely developed a certain color preference. For example - almost no reds.

i find that certain top painters have a very distinct style...
i can recognize, more or less instantly, the works of painters such as, Fluffy, Mike Mcvey, Mrika, Jen Haley, Automaton, Aarkall, Arjay, Razza, Cyril, Yellow One, and some others (the list could go on a while)...

i think that havin\' a distinctive style is what draws people to be fans of certain painters...
they stand out from the crowd...

cheers
