Do you buy more than you can paint?

I think talk about numbers of figures is irrelevant. Likewhise photos lie. There is only one true way to establish how out of control you are.

Tammi has the right idea. You must weigh your collection. You can then reference the degree of Figmentia by comparing it to your weight, the weight of your car, or worst case scenario, the weight of your painted miniature collection.

A poster on TMP had it right though. If you ever run out of unpainted lead you will die.

Sure I buy more minis that I can paint in my short life, it is still like a drug, or I was in my first life a litte Hamster (sorry, I don`t know the enlish word for this little, collecting animal). If I stop working and ohter, not funny things, only to paint, I belive that I must stay over 100 years old to finish. But, never do so, because I also don`t stop buying minis before they don`t stop modelling them.lol

In regards to the age of an unpainted mini, I tend to view it like a vintage bottle of wine, it\'s in my cellar resting further perfecting its vintage until the right occassion comes along. Some of my vintage pieces are 20 years old. Some of these have soured and turned to vinegar, when compared to the fine minis available now. I will keep them all in my collection, knowing some will remain naked forever, never knowing the touch of a brush.

It was a miniature that I got for my birthday and that didn\'t really fit into my planning

But then again, I\'m only in this hobby for 2 years

Indeed, I have way more miniatures than I could feasibly paint. And the collection keeps growing.

In fact, some friends joke about my room being the safest place in town in case of nuclear war, due to the amout of lead it contains. lol

Not minis, brushes and paints

I actually have a fairly reasonable collection of unpainted lead. Of course, I\'ve only been painting about 2.5 years, so I don\'t have stuff from 20 years ago like some do.

My big weakness is not lead, it\'s the paraphinalia. I went to Origins last week and bought four minis. On the other hand, I bought 20+ bottles of Vallejo MC, four Adikolor brushes, and a thing of Adikolor thinner.

The only reason I didn\'t buy the Adikolor paints was because I\'d entered in a contest they had and harbored the illusion I might win some paints. lol

So I have a relitively small collection of unpainted lead, and a mind-boggeling array of paints, brushes, exacto knives, dremmel attachements, etc. To give you an idea of the depth of the sickness, I have over 110 paints - that\'s just Vallejo. It doesn\'t count Citadel, Reaper Pro-Paints, Reeves Acrylic (two tubes of metallic), Liquatex Basics, Windsor Newton, and Testors Fantasy Acryls.

Brushes are just as bad. I\'ve got four WN S7 (000 - 1), two WNS7 minis (00 & 000), the four new Adikolor brushes, some Kolinsky sables from another manufacturer I can\'t think of at the moment, Vallejo, Raphael, Windsor Newton (others besides WNS7), and a horde of \"junk brushes\" for running Paint and Take sessions. It\'s sick, I tell you, sick.

I really don\'t want to think about the amount of unpainted mini\'s I\'ve got to get through (this includes most of a lizardman force, the remains of a skaven army, a small pile of LOTR, plus all the stuff I\'ve bought just because I like the model). My main problem is I can\'t bring myself to do a rush job, even on my rank and file.

On the other hand my boyfriend can whizz through his stuff even if it means sacrificing the quality of his painting sometimes. It\'s true he still has a backlog of mini\'s to get through but let\'s just say he\'s a lot closer to the bottom of his pile than I am.

It can be comforting to know there\'s someone worse than yourself, right?

Well, I\'ve got about 10 W&N brushes of varying sizes. I\'ve got the whole 60 set of Vallejo\'s game colour, and I have two of most of them. So that\'s about 100 bottles. And i\'ve got a couple of Vallejo model paints as well, and GW, and some Nitro... I\'ve also got about 20 brushes of cheaper brands, of varying quality of course.

I\'ve got three kinds of dry retarder, two kinds of flowing improver. AND I have of course got an enormous mound of unpainted miniatures! They\'re a crazy mix of GW characters, reaper DHL, Warlord and a bunch of odd ones..

And I\'ve only been into the painting hobby for about a year now and I\'ve never even played any tabletop games.

Well, darn.. someone told me \'you cannot die as long as you have unpainted metal lying around\'. Eternal life, here I come! :bouncy::bouncy:

Wow, I wish I could afford all that...I have two cheap different sized brushes (1 and 00), about 30 bottles of GW colour and that\'s it. And since I had to paint about 100 skaven models in a week in time for LinCon (Swedish convent), I only have a few unpainted mnis left, so basically I have to repaint old minis to have something to train my skills on. BUT, I STILL score between 6.5 and 7.5, AND I manage to sell my stuff on ebay for quite a lot of money

Imagine what I will do when I can afford to buy some decent equipment

Well you know what they say: \'It\'s not what you have, it\'s what you do with it\'

I don\'t think better equipment necessarily makes you a better painter. It\'s just that I find it tiresome to work with cheap brushes that can\'t hold a pointy tip, or GW paints that come in bad bottles and dry up too quickly. It\'s just nice to have higher quality accessories, because I think it\'s worth it even if it doesn\'t make me a better painter

I totally agree, of course it is. Guess I was just being a little jealous..If I could I would buy every colour there is, every mini and every brush and sculpting tool. But I\'m a very poor student, and my rent was just raised to almost twice the cost

Being a poor student myself, I\'ve actually been selling some unpainted minis I\'ve had lying around for a couple of months. Not having a full time job means a lot of spare time for hobbies though, so I think that\'s good That\'s a MAD increase in your rent though! I guess you\'ve moved, or is the person you\'re renting from out of his mind? ???
