Do you do color studies before painting?

@ Ritual: Yeah, I noticed the spelling! lol

@ EricJ: If I ever painted a mini just to strip it half a hour later, I would have to kill myself.

@ Medved: You say that you have a \"ready made palette\" in your head. Don\'t you get bored? I mean, one of the reasons that I have never painted any kind of unit, or more than two minis at once is because I can\'t stand to paint the same colors over and over again.

@ Margo: I like to mix colors, but it\'s rare to get the color that I was looking for
:)
That\'s why in photoshop I\'ve inserted the entire range of Vallejo Model Colors, so I do my color study with paints that I already have available :D

@ Joshua: Well, that sure looks exciting. One never knows how a mini is going to look like! :)

@ sniffles and donga666: The truth is that I\'m the laziest painter around. I\'ll do anything to avoid painting (God knows why, I love painting) and these color studies take away a few hours of training to get my first 7 on CMON lol

@ kittykat23uk: Isn\'t it great to be surrounded by reference pictures? Then, when your friends come over they have a look at that and immediately say that you\'re crazy for insisting with them to have a go at this hobby :D

Thanks everybody for the great replies to my first poll (even to the ones who chose the last option - I\'m looking at you, Ritual!).

I can help you, Margo... lol

ITS SPELLED COLOUR DAMMIT!!!!...ahem...ok, i usually pick out 2 colours (one major, one minor), get a vague idea of where they\'re gonna be blocked in, and work from there. tends to change drastically as i go along, but that\'s how i do it. its made simpler by the fact that i have like 4 colour-schemes that i use all the time and rarely stray from (though it may get tricky if i have to paint a woodelf any time soon...not really a big fan of green...or blue, come to think of it

I have started using CMON as a direct reference point for painting by printing out a collage of images of my current project from different painters.

I use this to compare colour ideas and as a reference for detail - something I now need with the Confrontation minis and my poor eye sight:(

Two models I am working on at the moment are Neran the Scary (Mid -Nor)and the Guardian of the Runes (Wolfen).
I found about five/six images of each with different (not that different in most cases) colour schemes. -detail on Neran\'s face is scary!

Is this cheating?:D
