OK it isn\'t really about minis, but i want to tell you of an awesome group i know : Blind Guardian

It\'s a metal group, who is inspired a lot by Tolkien\'s books. Their songs are very melodic and they play the guitar really good!

If you want to know more, go to www.blind-guardian.com

Yes, Ian (who you met briefly at Games Day) is a real metalhead and has a lot of blind guardian albums, I quite like them too. Having just spoken to him he also reccommends you listen to:

Savatage
Rage
Nevermore
Mercenary
Kamelot
and Stratovarious (sp?)

For Power metal.

Oh if you like progressive metal I can also recommemd Dream Theater and Shadow Gallery.

Oh, I\'ve seen Savatage, Rage and Dream Theater live in the old days when I was still heavily into my metal. I only listen to the occasional tune nowadays(can\'t cope with this newfangled nu-metal RATM/Killing joke rip off stuff). I mostly listen to punk, oi!, psychobilly, and EBm nowadays...

does this mean I\'m getting old?

Sweet

\"Nightfall in Middle Earth\" is one of my favorite painting CDs....
I also stumbled on a band called \"Galloglass\" I believe while scoping other bands like Nevermore. They had an album called \"Taled from Nevermore\" or somethign to that effect...
Also, if you are a fan of Priest, as in the Painkiller kind of style, you simply must check out \"Primal Fear\"... They WILL blow you away :D
I have to thank Kevin (kevd82) for putting me on the path of enlightenment...
Staying on genre, old but classic, Hawkwind did \"The Chronicle of the Black Sword\" co-written by Michael Moorcock himself....

If you\'re old I\'m Bleeding Ancient!
(I was once asked if my birth certificate was written on slate in roman numerals!)

Never been a Heavy Metal fan (except the magazine) but recently got hold of Sister Hazel albums and really liked them, mostly I listen to Classic, Folk Rock & New Age.

Wow guys, it has turned into a metal topic! lol

\"Nightfall in Middle Earth\" is also my favourite Blind Guardian album!

Yep, Blind Guardian is like Iced Earth!

I love Dream Theater, but my favourite bands are Iron Maiden and Metallica!

Bah

Maiden and Priest rock. I seriously hope you mean very old Metallica.... Anythign after Puppets really blew. Justice was about 50/50 in my books, but the rest is rubbish IMO! Ride the Lightning was the best for sure :D

I\'m not a great fan of Judas Priest because of the singer\'s voice, which is horrible! But Painkiller is just

I love all Metallica albums except Load and Reload, my favourite is Justice for All!

I have that album and I used to listen it a lot while painting. I\'m not awfully lot into the power metal but there\'s something in album with it\'s Silmarillion theme. Also BGs 14min (or so) song from their latest album is excellent.

Well here is a topic I know something about - I even have the demos Blind Guardian did when they were still called Lucifer\'s Heritage (dumb name, I know). Nightfall in Middle Earth is great, I also like Somewhere Far Beyond. As far as saying Blind Gaurdian and Iced Earth are alike I don\'t agree - both can be lumped into the Power Metal genre, but I really don\'t think they sound much alike. Iced Earth has a heavier guitar sound. Perhaps the fact that the Blind Gaurdian singer and the guitarist from Iced Earth did a side project called Demons and Wizards has given rise to them being considered very similar.

Anyway, as Glyn mentioned Primal Fear is another great Power Metal band, Nevermore\'s new cd is fantastic, if you like female vocals in your Power Metal then you need to hear Nightwish.

Stratovarious - I have a hard time with metal bands that have a sound dominated so much by keyboards that the guitar becomes secondary. Not my thing, but they do seem to be pretty popular.

Ok, on to the crap music comment - pointless post, added nothing to this thread.

Olov, I personally do enjoy Black Metal bands more than any other genre of metal, but if you are trying to suggest that the bands you mentioned are \"true\" metal then please explain the electonica in recent Satyricon, the heavy synths in some Vintersorg, and the total lack of any metal in Ulver for the last few releases? Darkthrone at least have stayed true to their origins. Kind of hard for Dissection to do anything with Jon still in jail for murder.

I do like some metal, but I prefer stuff like Pink Floyd, 80\'s stuff, Queen, Bon Jovi, Weird Al, that kind of thing. :D

hahahaha! Mike is into folk! lollollol...I really must hide those Silly Wizard and jethro Thull albums of my desk before I make fun of folkies ;)

please don\'t go into the \'true\' black metal thing, it\'s so old and who cares, if you like music, you like it. I like so many different kinds of music that the whole \'belonging\' to a \'scene\' thing is obselete, although being a psychobilly comes closest to my crazy attitude!(I don\'t have a quiff though, too old for that kind of nonsense) although not as ancient as Dragonsreachlollollol

lollollol Ah well, I suppose I have quite an eclectic taste when it comes to music. I also like lots of stuff from the sixties (though I\'m not old enough to remember THAT first time round!;)) But I also Like some folk stuff. Anyone ever heard of \"the Corries\" a Scottish folk band?

I wasn\'t going into the true black metal thing - just pointing out problems with that whole \"true\" thing. I don\'t think I would be espousing the virtues of listening to Nightwish if I was caught up in being \"true\". I like all sorts of music, but metal is the only thing I actively seek out.

Peyote Coyote - you know, I like Pink Floyd well enough myself (actually, they put on the best concert I have ever seen), but I don\'t see why you feel the need to put down other people\'s tastes. There are more than a few bands mentioned here that I find extremely distasteful, but that\'s just my opinion. No need for me to go around slamming the tastes of others. So, if you like to get high and listen to Floyd and Dave Mathews (just a guess based on your screen name) then have at it, but leave my metal alone. :D

Trevor

Brushlicker and Freak!
If you like Judas Preist - Painkiller, check out Ram It Down, same style and has a killer version of Johnny B Goode on it, oh and Screaming For Vengence and Turbo are great as well out of the earlier stuff.

\"Say I waste my life away, but I live it to the full\"

I love music, its great, and I like all sorts of things. The whole music classification thing drives me nuts, music is so hybridised now anything other than a broad classification is pointless. Otherwise you get into ridiculous things like \"Oh I only listen to retro new wave of british black death nu-metal\"

A friend use to bitch incessently about how crap dance music was and he only liked metal, until I pointed out that Disturbed, Linkin Park etc all have members who are listed as DJs (or some such).

Tammy, definitely not old, I recently went back to my old uni and all the cool young things were listening to EBm, so you\'re on safe ground there.

Finally please don\'t inform me of any new bands I might like, I\'m desperately fighting a music addiction which is rapidly approaching 1500 albums... Bands keep on releasing albums and I just can\'t keep up (or rather I can, but my wallet can\'t  )
