Do you like your job?

Wow, I am saddened to see so many people who hate their jobs. Although I must admit I have been in the same situation in the past... However, right now there is no way I could dislike my job! I am an English teacher in South Korea. I\'ve been here for eight years and got into a college job last year. Well payed, work only 16 hours - 4 days a week and I get five months payed leave a year! How sweet is that??

Some of my co-workers grumble and complain about things but I just don\'t understand them. The job is so amazing that the very few, minor inconveniences just aren\'t even worth worrying about.

To make it even better I just found a gaming store recently so I have a decent income and plenty of time to paint and game. Managed to paint up 2000 points of Eldar to good standard in the past two months and play almost every weekend! Life is great right now!! :bouncy:

to be honest though, it\'s a tough livin\'... with the amount of hours it takes to produce a nice paintjob that i would be happy to send out the door, versus the pay, it\'s a shite return...
job satisfaction is huge...monetary reward is small...companies are constantly tryin\' to pay the least amount they can, and private commission guys are constantly tryin\' to undercut me on rates...
companies do give me a lot of swag, so bartertown pays my rent...
seein\' my work published is nice, but i\'m not gonna get rich...

i do what i love, so i can\'t complain...even if i do have to paint some shite sculpts sometimes...

i had to make some serious money on the side, so i can move back to mexico, and be stable...
before i came up here, i lived on an island with great surf, in a 2 bedroom house(all to myself) for $60 a month...havin\' a first world income, in the third world, is the way to go...no way i could afford to live in my hometown, redondo beach, in california...in order to surf, and live well as a mini-painter, it\'s all about latin america...
at the end of summer, i\'ll be goin\' back with a website up and runnin\', a camera, a laptop, and a few grand in my pocket... sorted mate!!!
life in the first world is just too damn expensive for a guy who has no interest in chasin\' the dollar...

OH YES...i get to vent so sorry everyone..not sure how long this will be!!!

I work at a bank..you have no idea how cheap banks are....A friend in department has moved back to his old department, and since no one is good enough with excel or math skills...I have to take over his stuff. What sucks is they don\'t want to pay to make a good proper solution for stuff cause it\'s too expensive (yeah, right..it costs a fraction..maybe 0.001 of what a bank makes) and it makes sense for the future ....so i am stuck with all this manual stuff that i am not that good at since i don\'t really understand the foundation behind it yet, and is prone to errors. (alreayd made one last week).

On top of that, i found out i am prob the lowest paid in my entire area but one of the busiest.

What really sucks...during school, I was doing math...i was better than average (B\'s) but no where good enough to be an actuary, or a professor or to move to something really cool to get a job at a tech company or something like that...i didn\'t do well in my last year since the actuary courses were just too much for me..even with tons of studying. My final marks after graduating (a year later after raising marks after i started work) allowed me to graduate, but my marks are too low to do an MBA anywhere in north america that i can find or in europe or australia... (australia needs 65%, NA needs 75%)... so stuck in this job and need money and having problems finding a new job i qualify for; even one that i may not enjoy, either. Hoping HSBC near our home ends up outsourcing to the same company my bank did, so that i could maybe get a contract/higher paid position there as a consultant...but that was rumours so far.

Also, the bank being cheap, won\'t pay for people in my group to take the courses we want (via our educational budget) so it\'s hard to get upgraded skills, since can\'t afford many of these courses on own, espec now with a home..wife...etc.

On top ofall this, so that we would have aharder time leaving (as some people have suggested..whether it true or not, not sure) they changed out official titles from Business Analyst/Specialist, which is an industry wide term, to Technical Process Sp. which apparently is only at my bank...so when anyone tries to search via our titles...there are 0 hits on most job sites!!! *sigh*

Finally, we have to fund our OWN employee appreciation days (i don\'t give money for them)...so that really blows.

Also, Shilps is looking for a job, so situation not that great....only reason I can buy anything right now, is by selling stuff I have on ebay..hehe

you wouldn\'t any more. money problems are causing all sorts of trouble. it\'s so frustrating not being able to do your job properly coz you have all these rules saying oyu must do certain things but they give you neither the time, equipment or money to do it. how long ago was it you worked as a nurse?

i started in this company in 2004. Before that it was intensive care in a big teaching hospital that was pretty well funded. Still had the usual problems with trying to get agency staff etc

Oh yeah (I am basically self employed), but the main guy I deal with can be a dick. He is a good (very good actually) administrator, but absolute crap as a manager. In his two years in his position he totally upgraded our paperwork to digital work, making life much easier. I get to travel (Infact I am away from home for 12-13 weeks a year, though not all consecutive). I have alot of freedom and lots of time off (I only work about 7-8 months a year). When I work though, I work long hours... 14-16 hrs/day sometimes, but its worth it.

yeah things have gone really down hill since the whole agenda for change thing. because it cost so bloody much (and we still haven\'t had our pay sorted out) everywhere is having to cut back. wasn\'t worth it imo. the idea was to save money and make things equal and they have so far achieved neither. the problem is the high end managers are still ridiculously over paid for the amount of work they do, so those of us on the \'shop floor\' end up with all the crap.

it\'s taking ages for retirement stuff to be sorted out because of the large amounts of people quitting

Dang Sanjay, dare I ask which bank? While branch level positions usually arn\'t well paid my experiences with banks in Canada are they can be quite generous when it comes to training. I\'m looking into taking a position where they are likely to pay for my MBA.

Dunno. Just started at my current work 2 years ago. I\'m currently working at an emergency hospital as emergency laboratory analysist.

Pros:
Allthough you get some routine its always different. Work is also a good mix of head and hand. As I\'m more a handicraft person. Teammates are also nice, with the sloppy ones included you always find in every team.

Contras: I just found out that I\'m very dependend on my inner clock. Which is not good for doing night shifts. To top that we are only 8 people running the lab 24/7. So you often get a nightshift (compared to my former classmates, who work in other similar labs).

Other problem is that we get more and more parameters to messure, with the same staff. Its on the edge to handle now and company is not very interested in hiring more staff.
One of our teammates had a burnout just recently. And she was one of the persons who really cared a lot for this job.

Anyway....cause of my inner clock the job is going to make me sick. I need a full day after a nightshift to recover. My stomach doesn\'t work properly, which is not good when you want to do stuff with friends. The cantina \"meal\" isn\'t much better, which lead me to an food allergy in this past 2 years.

So to sum up, I want to change my current job. Looking for a laboratory job with normal work times and without nightshifts. One thing is that I feel sorry for my team mates, cause I have the bad feeling the company will not hire a follower for my position, leaving 7 peeps for 24/7...

Oh forgot one of the best Pros:
The lab is at the top lvl right beneath Heli plattform. We have a REALLLY great view over the city. I always love to watch when its quiet, especially at sunset, or when a thunderstorm comes in over the city. One of the most beautiful things I have seen in my life so far.

Only been here just over a month and walked straight into this job.

I\'m getting paid more to do more stimulating work that involves learning to use loads of software I never had chance/couldn\'t be bothered to in the past.

People are all very friendly and atmos is exceedingly laidback. I needed a day off on Friday and asked if I could take it as holiday. I was told to just take the day off! As I say, relaxed...

Even been given a stonking great office, a new beastie of a PC and a whole bunch of software worth thousands of bucks that I asked for.

So at the moment work is good. Won\'t last long. I hate all my jobs sooner or later!

Well Liz I know EXACTLY how you feel. See I started working for University of Phoenix in Phoenix at one of their smaller divisions. I became an online academic counselor for students pursuing their associate\'s degree. The difficult part . . . all of them were military in some way (active, reservist, veteran, or even spouse of). For the most part though my students were great.

It was the office around me that I hated. It was a huge call center type place with cubicles that didn\'t even have 5 foot walls, I think they might have been 3.5 feet high. So you had no amount of privacy at all.

All of the coworkers on my graduation team except for the finance counselor were prior service guys who were way too cocky and figured that I should be subservient to them because I was female. Yeah, they quickly learned that wasn\'t how it was going to be.

But on top of it all I had an insane manager. We complained about her constantly for 8 months and the response my team of 11 academic counselor\'s received was \"Oh you guys clearly have it out for her! Y\'all are the trouble makers here\".

Yeah it finally culminated with her going off on me while I was on the phone with a student. I completed the phone call, marched my butt in the director\'s office and gave him the WHOLE story and finally capped it with, \"Look, you\'ve already lost 3 academic counselors on this team because of her. The other 7 of us have our resumes ready to go. Which is going to be the better business decision? Keep her and rehire an entire team of 10+ people or hire a new manager keep those of us who are still here?\"

Yeah that finally got their attention. They interviewed our entire team and a couple of people from other teams to corroborate what I had told them. Then the manager decided she might as well leave anyway. So two days later she sent her resignation out publicly . . . except to her manager. Yeah I had to send her resignation letter to her manager. That went over well.

That job was horrible. I couldn\'t stand it but it paid well and I had great benefits. So I started looking to see if there were any other openings for Academic Counselors in different cities, states or heck even a different department.

I found an opening here in Dallas, applied and got it. It was THE BEST decision I\'ve made. I\'m still doing the same job but for students who are attending our ground campus here. My manager and coworkers are fantastic. We all get along very well and I can\'t imagine ever going back to the Online Campus. In fact I don\'t think they could pay me enough.

It\'s amazing what one simple change can do to really turn things around.

lol you earn less than that selling minis on ebay.
people deal on the value of the dollar mate.
a paper round will give you a steadier income and when your 16 get a saturday job.

keep minis as a hobby, even well painted models go for sweet FA on ebay unless you have a reputation.
