Do you love your LGS?

I'm looking for an LGS that's really awesome - somewhere the customers are proud to shop for an interview in Irregular Magazine.

Our first two issues featured Patriot Games in Sheffield UK, and Greenfield Games in the states.

This has been a popular feature - not an advert, but a proper chat with the store, finding out what they do above and beyond simply stocking stuff, plus some great photos.

I'd really love to feature a store from a different country - Canada, France, Germany, Poland, Spain or Italy for starters (as the magazine is most popular in those countries after UK and USA) - but I'm happy to start a list of other great stores.

well firestorm in cardiff (wales, does that count as a different country?!) is alright. the fella there is REALLY helpful. is allowing us to use his hall for a pb meet free of charge

Fran's actually very glad we don't have a FLGS.
GW's taken enough (?huh?) cash off me over the years.
I do have a couple of Hobby stores close(-ish) to me, but I tend to try to save up now and go to shows for my mini fix(es).

I doubt this place is still open, but up in the Poconos we had a rare gem. Riches Racing and Hobbies was our little haven. The guy that owned it used to belong to a clown troupe (and no, he wasn't creepy) so he had little bits of memorabilia around his shop. It was mostly a model shop (trains, cars, planes, etc) but in one corner he had the GW stuff. There weren't any other minis. There was one large game table that we'd go ahead and battle out on. There were 8 of us that played, all around the age of 14, and he was a great painter himself. Our parents would drop us all off on a saturday morning and pick us up around 5 or 6.

Rich had a real passion for War40K Orks. They took up half of his display case. Unfortunately I don't even know if Rich is still alive, much less running the store. Last I saw him (probably 5 years ago) he was put on Oxygen. Still, some great memories.

The LGS I deal with now is okay. Good selection (including a VERY nice selection of World Of Darkness), but the crowd is just annoying. Not that the people are bad, but there is almost always a large crowd that I have to press through to even get back to the miniatures. And most of them are card players. -_-

@Freak - yup Firestorm would count.

@IdOfEntity - sounds like that was a good place.

Are there really no other places around that people love, or do you just put up with somewhere and shop online?

Online when I can but like so many others I prefer to pick & choose which minis to give a home to.

There is one Gaming store I know of in the centre of Manchester.
However War Griffon will attest to the reason(s) why 'socially adept' adults don't spend a great deal of time in it.

Even staying there waiting for the rain to stop was hardship that had to be endured and even then I chose to brave the downpore instead of the funk...

Humidity only makes it worse.

I've gotten the vibe that it's not the stores themselves that might be lacking as much as it is the clientele is lacking. Has anyone noticed that both active and passive manners in the customers has been kind of sub-par?

If you start going more often to the store maybe other decent blokes will to. Arrange meet-ups, wage a strategic war against sub-par clientele! :)

My local store is pretty slick. Doubles as a computer store and has a vast selection of models as well. In fact, it has a way larger selection of minis (especially GW) than any GW store I have ever been to! Good club, active and lots of fun. Now to get down there soemtime HAHA
