This kind of thing:
I write code for objects, surfaces, whatever, and then the program, Persistance of Vision raytracer, calculates the path of photons in the scene and how they\'d be blocked and reflected and stuff by the things in the scene. Then it produces a picture of it. It\'s like maths you can see, and I love it!

(Photons are EITHER Klingon-killing deth torpedoes OR \"packets\" of light. It\'s a duality, much like light itself, which can be viewed as either a particle or a wave, depending on how you look! ....And I\'ll shut up now, I\'m sure you\'ll be grateful!

Hehehe... okay, I\'ve stopped laughing.
Ray tracing is a computer method of making a picture. You write a file describing all the shapes and their qualities that you want to take a picture of. The computer then traces back a ray of light from the \"camera\" to the objects and any light source, thus determining what color and intensity to assign to that pixel.
I may have gotten the path wrong, but I think the general concept is correct.

Do you guys do that Science thingy as part of work? Amazing stuff. I just finished pounding 20 pounds of veal with a mallet just to sort of put the exclamation point on how different our respective vocations may indeed be.

Nah, I don\'t do it for a living, just for fun (t would be a cool job, tho). This picture was for work, however. The journal I edit for prints a festive pic and goodwill message in the last issue of the year, and they always get one of the team to design it- makes it more personal, I guess. I\'ve done this year and last year. Unfortunately, I did it in my spare time!
