Does anyone else do this?

When you are all by yourself painting, do you ever do something and ask yourself, \"Gee, I wonder if anyone else does that?\" If so, what is it?

For example, I\'ll be painting along and get a drop of something in a place I don\'t want it. So I quickly dab my brush in the rinse water and clean off the wet paint before it sets.

I\'ve heard other people say they just paint over such boo-boos, but after going to a lot of trouble to get a blend just right, I don\'t want to have to paint over something like that.

I\'ll do that occasionally depending on the figure. for Some minis Particularly nurgle ones something like that could add to it. :)

And more

Yes, I also do the cleaning operation when I drop paint where there should not be..usually, I scream at the same time...

Besides this, I\'m used to have a lot of different pots with water...
So I have 3 small cup, one medium and an old pot...Why?
1 small for light colors as white ....
1 small for dark colors as black, brown...
1 small for metallics
the medium also for the metallic, as I\'m not taking fresh water, even for metallics, in an already too used water
and, the big one...same use, but for non-metallic...

Useless to say that I\'ve two different complet set of brushes for metallics and non metallics...and also useless to say that I\'m never mixing colors with the brushes I used to paint...(an old set do this!)

OK, now, who\'s doing that too?

Ok, I do the cleaning thing, but the brush usually ends up in my mouth before the water glass. Why, because its closer, handier, and just a bad habit. Anytime I need to moisten the bristles, they end up in my mouth, paint and all. I have a friend who swears that is where all my health problems come from (but I never do that with oils)! lol
What sucks is, its hard to break the habit once I\'ve started; have any of you ever noticed how bad Future floor wax tastes!!!:p

I do this, I even have a particular brush now dedicated to the task which is all gnarled and curled. Guess I make a lot of mistakes. ;)

Has anyone else painted \'swatches\' of all the colours they own? I did this over the past week. I think it\'s a bit anal of me, but I also think it\'ll come in handy.

Yeah I do the cleaning thing, and its usually mouth first, although I quite often have a wet brush handy as well for such eventualities.

I did that with my colored pencils. That way, I could carry the card in my purse, and if I felt like dropping by the arts store, I wouldn\'t buy a pencil I already had.

Even better idea for paints - since they have a habit of being darker when they dry. I also put little dots of the colors on the tops of my bottles, so I\'m not just looking at a sea of grey, black and white.

Have one card on your desk, one in your wallet or purse so you don\'t duplicate a color that you have at home already.

Wren, I also like the icky cleaning brush idea. Or q-tips. Both are good suggestions.

Drangonsreach: Wadda ya mean, \"No\"? Us \"coffin dodgers\" with our poor eyesight and shakey hands must occasionally get paint where we don\'t intend.

Close. I use one for lights, one for darks, and a big one for dumping the used water into.

WHen the season comes around I\'m going to try SaxonAngels idea of using popsicle molds. That\'ll give me an even wider variety of choices :D Not may popsicle molds to be found around here at the moment, though :( Well, not to worry. Spring can\'t be more than 4 to 6 months away lol

Oh! And welcome to the Forums FW Tibald!

So ??? is this the thread where it\'ll be okay for me to reveal that I like to dress-up as Alice from Alice in Wonderland when I paint ???

Because I always like to dress up as Alice Cooper when I paint. Do you think there might be a connection?

I do the clean-up thing, too, though I usually keep another brush nearby for just that (well, and for mixing paints--it\'s usually living in the water dish).

I also find that I usually make various \"combat\" noises when painting, too. This tends to be more pronounced when doing monsters of some kind, especially undead. I know I\'m not the only one that does that, though; I\'ve caught some of my buddies painting orks and going \"WAAAAAAAAGH!\" after getting a nice step done. :D

As far as water glasses go, I usually only use one, but change the water frequently. I do, however, have this plastic medicine syringe that I keep fresh clean water in, and use that to add to my paints to thin them. I can easily control how many drops come out at a time. And I don\'t generally dress up when I paint, or use sound effects, but I do talk to myself, and quite frequently, answer back in different voices. lol

i\'m probably not alone

well, i\'m sure i\'m not the only one, but i can\'t be bothered to undercoat my models. i just go straight to it with the mid tone or one of the shades of whatever colour i\'ll use for each area, and work up from there.
i also kill myself by mixing paint straight onto my palette - not all at once in mass quantities, but for each brush stroke....i don\'t know why. i\'ve just gotten used to it. and, yes, i talk to myself too, so at least i\'m not alone.

Yeah, but man, it smells so good!

I get to taste most paints, as I reshape the brush in my mouth. I try to remember to clean it first.

Anyone talk to their figs, like \"move your arm a bit so I can paint your shirt\"?

My whole paint set and hobby kit is portable, I usually take it everywhere too. Anyone work out of a completely on-the-go set?
