Does mood affect your painting style?

While I was reading the various threads on national painting style, I had the thought that the mood you are in could perhaps affect the style you paint in.

Lately my style of painting has become a lot darker, with a lot more muted colours. Perhaps my brush is trying to tell me something lol

I could see how ones mood could affect how they paint. For me when I am happy I like to paint \"good guys\", when I am mad I paint bad guys. I don\'t think that I paint all that much when I am meloncholly.

For me it doesn\'t make any change if I am happy or if I am angry.

I just paint the minis in the style I want to try. Nothing else.

I think there\'s a definite difference, depending on my mood. I actually do brighter colours more when I\'m in a good mood, and more earth-tones and darks when I\'m not.

Now, if only I was any good at either... :)

Thats an interesting question...

If I were upset or not in a good mood, I doubt I would even paint.

I think I have to be in the right frame of mind before I can begin.

But, it is an interesting theory. Maybe any sense of style I may have comes from my mood.

Next time I get really mad, I\'m heading right for the brushes. I want to see if anything changes...;)

jep same here, sometimes im in great mood and the mini i paint comes out really dark (even if that wasnt my intention :rolleyes: )

Well, I have painted things when I\'ve been upset or angry, althought they usually end up taking an acetone bath later, and that I need to replace some ruined brushes.

So I really wouldn\'t recommed it...:(

I usually find that when I am frustrated I will switch to a very basic fig - which are usually good guys. I also try dark tones for good guys becuase they are usually viewed as bright and cheery. Actually, most of my stuff is a little on the dark side. If I was on the nationality thread would that make me British?

I\'m the same as leopardpixie I think, I either have moods where I\'m ok to paint, or those I\'m not ok to paint...but once I\'m painting it turns into something of a medatative state which is sort of independant from moods.

@ KingM - I\'m pretty much the same. If I don\'t feel like I\'m in the right frame of mind, I don\'t paint. I find that I\'ve done a lot of my painting to \"happy\" stuff on my TV. Most of my recent stuff was painted while I had Azumanga Daioh playing in the background for noise and happy distraction. So sometimes, I guess I manipulate my mood a little in order to paint.

...no...I don\'t sound like a theatre artist, now do I? :p

Yes definetely it does.
I see all my works as a result of mood/inspiration. I often controll my mood.

Sometimes I am looking a special film (last a western: Play me the song of the dead), then I want to paint something like that or interpretate the miniature in the same way as the film does with their characters.

The result was:

Comics are quite good for controlling the mood too.
Often when colecting some background information I am getting the right mood to paint miniatures, even when normaly not liking the miniature.
I controll my mood with music quite often.

But seriously, I generally paint in cool (as in blues and purples), darker tones anyway; bright shades are reserved for the occasional mini that requires bright colours due to some bit of fluff somewhere. I bought a pot of Scorpion Green (GW, bright lime green) months ago and haven\'t even opened it yet. My Midnight Blue (think BIC pen ink), however, has gotten quite the workout. So, to answer the actual question, no. Generally if I\'m feeling blue I don\'t paint for fear of wrecking a perfectly good mini, and painting usually cheers me up anyway.
