Dominion Squad WIP - Presentaion help

Hi all, I\'m fairly new to these forums but I\'m hoping to get more involved and start by hopefully getting some ideas on my current project. This dominion squad is nearly done, and I intend to set them up on a presentation base, but I\'ve never really done this before. The base theme of the army is an urban rubble.

I had thought perhaps the squad coming down steps, to get some vertical seperation, so squad members were not blocking others. I was also thinking about a back drop, perhaps a urban building front.

Any input on creating effective presentation bases would be great!

Here is the squad and the wooden base I will use for the presentation to give you an idea of how they look and the size base I\'m working with. (it\'s a rather poor photo, taken quickly just for reference).

Great painting technic, and artisticaly pleasing to the eye. I just have one regret; the flamer canisters. There is no pratical way for them to be transparent. It looks cool, but I figure it would break too easily in combat. But don\'t change it, just remember it for your next squad ;).

Greenstuff you are nitpicking.:D.They look too good to be bothered by that.Anyway there are plastics far stronger than metals these days.
I think you have the best idea yourself.
Set of steps up to front of building with door.Big stone thingy, run down, litter in gutters etc, broken windows.Have the girl with the book top centre like she just come throught he door, maybe open.Only problem is sinking the bases into the steps.

Just promise me you will do as good a job on it as you have on these little beauties as they look fantastic.

@Klute : :). I\'m just jealous of Eric\'s painting technic, I just had to find something ;). That plus the fact that the Inquisition and the Adeptus Mechanicus have a deal to stop all progress in the Imperium ... fear the conspiration ;).

How about stairs going down into a room (just show the stairs and the room\'s back wall) with a busted door on the floor, the captain or whatever she is stepping in, brandishing her scroll, with two grunts flanking her, and another on each side of the stairs, by the wall, facing away to cover the sides ? And the rest of the squad still on the stairs...

Sort of like this :

............|x_x|
............|__|
_____|x_x|________
.......<-x.......x->
.............x...x
.............|.x.|
.............v.|.v
................v

the \"x\" are the positions of your soldiers, and arrows the direction they face. The four in the back are on the staircase. Hope it\'s clear enough... :duh: (the dots are just there to keep the boards from screwing up my code)

Thanks for the imput so far! I\'ve just spent much much less time working on terrain building than painting, which is why I\'m here for help.

@4U I hadn\'t even considered turning the base and using the short side as the \"front,\" I think it opens a lot of possibilities. Also I had always figured to place the figures so that they all faced forward, thinking ahead to photography, which would likely be make the piece seem much less realistic. Thanks for the great ideas.

About the clear canisters, sure their tech hasn\'t progrested in 10\'s of thousands of years, that still puts them thousands of years more advanced than us! I bet they would have figured how to make a fuel canister that looked cool by then. My own critique of the cansiter is that the glass is blueish, where if it was clear it should be showing through the red/browns that are behind it, although trying that, it never did look right.

thanks again!
Eric
