since i use cmon and actually sell minis online i really need it to be somewhat representative scorewise since people look at them. due to bad photography i guess im banned to the lower regions of 6 and sometimes 7, so to see a mini that i personnally would vote as a tt mini be on top really sucks.

seeing as this mini is now removed from the top 7 days list i feel that it must have been one of those happy voter guys i guess.

scoring discussions should be taken up since the main site is a scoring site, ive seriously been thinking about never submitting another pic since they constantly get voted down. its also woth noting that a model that is simply basecoated never should be equal to a masterpiece, no matter who painted what.

While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, the problem here is that you seem to think this is Cool Paint Job or Not, it is not.
Miniatures are often voted on by whim whether people find them cool or not.
What is Cool is entirely subjective.
People are fickle, on the internet doubly so.
So while you may have your standards or a set of guidelines that determines your vote, do not think that the vast majority who visit do as well.

I don\'t know, HATE is an awfully strong word. Peeved?.... Possibly, slightly irritated maybe..

I don\'t get how you can say it is overrated. It\'s not your call to make, I think. Just like when I\'m slightly irritated people feel they have to vote \'down\' or \'up\' a mini because they don\'t agree with the rating.

It\'s not your (or anyones!) job to determine the final score. Your job is to just vote on it as you see fit. The community determines the final score.

i think all peoples work deserves a 10, because every one is special and all are equal.
now think happy joy joy thoughts or we\'ll send round the pc judges and happy joy joy your arse lol

seriously, it\'s a bloody number determined by a lot of factors, many influenced by people trying to make money out of it.

it aint cmon\'s numbers i\'m interested in lol

Its only a number :) I try my best on each miniature I do, sure some turn out better than others but thats life. Its nice to get other peoples views on my work but I ain\'t going to run out and hang myself if a miniature I put my heart and soul into gets a low score on cmon.

After all everyones taste is different.

This is what i\'m talking about. I don\'t vote too often anymore, but when I do everything gets a ten. (Unless I comment, then I leave an appropriate vote with that, but vote a ten after leaving a comment)

It make\'s people feel better because their scores get higher. No moaning that scores are too low.

Ebay prices have a chance to get a little higher due to better scores and the whole market is priced up, meaning better \'wages\' for people who do this as a living.

And I feel a bit better because I have screwed with \'the system\'.

I expect most my scores will drop now because some people take the whole numbers thing way too seriously. But I couldn\'t care less, life\'s to short and they are, like DF said, little metal men

I notice this all the time. A model that looks like a 6.5-7.0 to me gets 8.5 and sells for $150 on eBay, sometimes I see a model with a 7.0 and I think it\'s easily worth an 8.5, and some times Darren Latham paints a brilliant figure that gets a 9.7 and sells for $1200. They don\'t always line up, but that\'s what you get when there\'s a voting system.

Hell, some times voting systems even lead to GW Bush being elected. Twice.

Clearly no system is perfect.

You want my opinion, about half the GW stuff posted here is overrated simply because of the number of GW Fanboys on the site. But, just like your feeling that something is overrated, its just my opinion.

And like Jeff said, Its only toy soldiers folks.

well the voting guide is based on a GW premise...the Golden Deamon judging bit.

personally i don\'t think any unpainted mini deserves tabletop quality of 5 because well it isn\'t finished.

granted a lot of good work go into some of them they just don\'t look that good eaither. might as well just post pewter straight out of the blister since voting is only based on the image and not really the mini, which gives better photographers or those with better photography skills better scores more often than not.

so what is the point of the voting guide then?

it is to try to set a baseline for all people to vote from.

for example what does tabletop quality mean? what should get a 5? maybe that is subjective, but can have criteria listed objectively.

painted? based? do these make something tabletop quality?

also how many of the minis are used for tabletop play? would these 10\'s be able to be played with constantly and retain their color?

are nearly lifesized busts even minis?

i think the site has grown to include more things than it should.

its great some people can sell their sculpts from here, but should they? is CMoN a place for professional mini sculptors/painters to solicit their works and skills for hire?

another thread someone complained people didn\'t donate had no right making some claims, well with CMoN having its own store should it allow soliciting with out and compensation? seems CMoN loses money while other make loads off of it. thus the ebay tracker for images.

and i think voting is also based on genre. those historical fanboys vs those GW fanboys, etc. something like a 12 inch GI Joe isn\'t even a mini anymore if it ever was.

don\'t get me wrong i see lots of great work on some larger civil war pieces, but are they really minis?

i think a re-evaluation of the sites purpose is needed personally, or at least a definition of what is a mini, or maybe even some sister sites for other things. CGoN, CoolGreenorNot; GBom, CoolBustorNot; etc.
