had this sitting around for a long time.
decided to play around with the flesh and use no actual flesh tone paint for it.

pale sand, yellow ochre, dark red, green, purple and dark blue.

i made sure that the yellow ochre, green and purple were used in everything to try and create more harmony within this piece than i usualy do.

still getting used to my new lights (more power!) so a little more playing with the light levels on my camera is needed.

comments and critism are more than welcome. :)

The colour choice could be better . The reds in the face and purples throughout his skin suggest a cold environment, when it is quite warm (beautifully demonstrated by the basing). That said, the face itself is strikingly authentic, he looks identical to a chum from school lol

Your metals are improving with each new piece, the sword and other metals are lookin\' goooooood.

You are truly the master of basing!!

cheers ian :)

if i did a cold climate base i would have had less colour within the skin using more of the blue so that the red parts would realy stand out.

just look at your hands next time it\'s realy cold and your outside for a while mate, you will see what i mean.

don\'t worry, i\'m not saying your wrong and i\'m right, just something i have observed (been looking at pics for referance as well)
will keep in mind what you said tho as it all helps. :)

EDIT, just had another look and i see what you mean ian in regards to the face.
er, he drinks a lot, yeh, that\'s a good excuse for it lol

I love the base. Where did you get such a nice tree from?

I think it is an interesting idea painting the flesh without the use of flesh tones but I agree a bit with AinuLainour. The purples in there are making him look cold to me too. The reds on the face I can write off as sunburn as he looks like he would burn easily with the blonde hair or as someone with a ruddy complexion but the shading under his arms and on his back would suit a cold environment more for me.

I have terrible circulation and when my hands want to play up and go cold (sometimes even in the summer) they will go a dark reddish purple with white fingernails.

However with all sorts of people around I guess we all show of different colours at different times anyway so I am tending to judge your minis skin tones based on my own.

Other than that it is very nicely done with my only other observation being that his sword looks a bit bent at the end although this could be how it is meant to be if it is a single edged blade.

@maron, the tree is made from seafoam, painted and textured with small leaves attached.

That is amazing. Just looking at it I would have guessed it is a cut off from a real tree. The bark looks like a silver birch or something.

I will google it but what is sea foam?

I quite like this guy, and the shadows and skin tone looks more on then off, only lil thing that stands out to me is on his right cheek there is almost a red line kinda looks like a scar (if it is then kudos lol) but if not a lil blendin there maybe but thats bout it. Your metals looks great I specially like on the back of his metal loin cloth the transition from shiny down to dirty. And as always your base is top notch.

Edit: and yes what the heck is sea foam I just googled it and all I got were a bunch of engine care/cleaning products???

all my basing products are bought from here http://www.barrule.com/Workshop/scratch%20builders%20paradise/terrain%20materials%20and%20supplies%20for%20wargames,%20scratch%20building%20and%20dioramas.html

the red line is part of his facial features mate, bit of an odd face on this mini in regards to character.

i think the main problem is you dont really have a main skin tone...its all been tinted purpleish, which looks a bit awkward with such yellowy highlights in my opinion...but it seems more natural in some angles than others

the next thing that would help you get to the next level....is to have multiple levels of shading/highlighting...this is what creates real depth

keep in mind green is a great shading colour for skin because it desaturates making for nice shadows

your highlights and shades seem even across the piece, specifically his back

i think the photos or angles might be affecting some of him

base looks great, metallics looks alright, maybe a bit more contrast on the mail

but a nice piece none the less :)

Nice and desaturated :) Helps all the little green gems stand out. Face is great.

Is this a Ltd. Ed model or something? I remember seeing on eBay going for a decent amount a couple of weeks back.

Tree looks a little wonky though lol

thanks guys :)

@matty, the tree isn\'t glued in so that if it gets sold it can be transported a lot easier. (the gems are green mate, not blue lol )

Nice mini, and thanks general for the link to that site, those trees are really cool! :D

the basic of the tree making is the same as 15mm tank foliage (except you use the whole sprig or whatever it\'s called)
