DRAGON HELP!

So yeah, I\'m painting my first dragon, a commission for a dear friend, and the type of dragon he wants.....and Emerald Dragon! I\'ve already searched on google for a good pic, but to no avail. My only reference is in the old 2nd edition D&D monster manual. I have the entire VGC range and some VMC, so got any suggestions as to what types of green to use? ANY help would be great . Thanks.

Do a search of the forums for \'Emerald\'. I\'m sure I remember reading a good post about painting gemstones, and from the sound of your plea, you\'re looking for a more literal \'emerald\' than just green. It might help.

This is one of the really good articles for reference to painting large gems. Here is another great one.
I know I have a VMC that is actually titled emerald green, so that might be a good color to base your additional colors on.

Another good question is how you want your dragon to look. Such as, an all over solid chunk of \'emerald\', or each scale would have it\'s own shading and highlights, making each scale it\'s own gem. Either way, sounds difficult.. good luck with that. :)

individual scales

I\'m looking to do each scale with a highlight and base coat. I was just concerned about making the dragon too green, and not enough emerald green.

Emerald can vary in degree of color, from the super-dark rich stuff up to very pale, light green.
To make it look really \'emerald\', I\'d say start out with a dark, rich Forest green, then highlight from there, but make sure to avoid any yellow-greens to make it look consistant. Check out that first article I posted, I know that the item they show is supposed to be a jade or emerald.

Did you try looking for Asian dragons? Maybe that would help. The color schemes are usually green and pretty varied.

assembly link

Including the color scheme, I also am looking for a good tutorial on how to assemble a dragon, never done it before. I have greenstuff to fill in the gaps with and I do have a pin vice. Got any suggestions.

absol, green stuff the joint and glue it up. Then pin from the outside in an inconspicuous spot (between a scale or something) Use a bit slightly larger than a paper clip. Two in each wing and one in each other joint should be plenty.

Cut the wire a bit shorter than the hole and push in. Put a drop of thin CA (ZAP - not \'a gap\') then fill the hole with a pinch of greenstuff.

The quality of my work can only go up....well maybe. Plus he doesn\'t want to pay $150 or more for a professional to do it. I hope it will be a rewarding experience.

It doesn\'t help me.
I have a few friends with lots of money.
But they all paint better than me.

However, I did do a commissioned piece, a while ago, and my customer was very pleased with it. And I didn\'t have any practical experience at commission work, at that point.

I just wish I\'d been better at taking pictures, at the time. The pic of it in my account sucks. It really looked very good.
