Here\'s a drawing I\'ve been working on for a class. (I know this is a miniature site but you guys don\'t mind do you?)

plaguedoctorjpg2.jpg

It\'s sort of based off a plague doctor from Europe when the plague was going around. You know, the bird mask guys. Any suggestions on how I could Improve it or what to do for a background?
I probably won\'t get very many comments as it\'s due tommorow... But I\'ll probably work on it more when I get it back.

Guy Davis\'s the Marquis: Danse Macabre is what you want to look for images from, excellent stuff. :) B.

Good idea there. The proportions are a bit off. The arms need to be longer, hands larger and the waist maybe a tad higher.

Try and work with your negative and positive space a little more. Don\'t just draw a frame heavy, and shade inside of the lines, use a light pencil maybe a 2h, and get the frame mocked up, and work the darks into the lights, using the paper as the final white highlight. Overall, a good thing to remember, is make your darks darker, and your lights lighter. Don\'t be afraid to use different kinds of pencils for different shades. A good exercise to push your lights vs darks is to start with a rectangle, break it into like 8 blocks. The block on the far left being the darkest you can make it, and the block on the far right being the lightest(white). Fill in the remaining 6 blocks in a gradient going from dark->light.

Otherwise, you have a good start, often the thing thats going to push somthing from ok to good is attention to detail, Don\'t be afraid to experement and stick to the basics and fundamentals. Keep it up!

Thanks for all the tips! It\'s just for a drawing class a school so I\'m not going to worry about perfecting it right now, (especially because it\'s due tommorow) But I will keep that stuff in mind for next time. I have to do a drawing every week, maybe I could post my progress on more drawings.

Proportions.

Get hold of a book on drawing human anatomy. There are a number of \'rules\' that can help.

I\'ve got this one and it\'s very good. Life drawing is essential if you want to get anywhere near.
