Dry autumn leaves for basing

You can buy forrest litter from Hudson & Allen Studio, but that\'s basically dried birch seeds. If you have birches in your neighbourhood you can pick some in late summer/early autumn and dry them yourselves. I have used this on this.

*edit* U4-Welcome kindly provided the linke to the Hudson & Allen stuff while I was typing this post.

tea leaves...

I have used oregano as well. Actually there are quite a few dried spices that would work pretty well.....

I don\'t know about elsewhere, but it seems here in America it is a tradition to have a spice rack that rarely gets used. It is a great source for miniature lovers....

@mickc22
Yeah! The Hudson & Allen stuff is quite cheap and saves you a lot of trouble picking and drying the stuff.

@supervike
That\'s a good tip. Gives your minis a more appealing scent too! lol

That\'s a tradition over here too:D

I think a couple of my jars are still priced in \'old money\'. We went decimal in 1972:flip:

ooohh, this is gorgeous. I wonder if they ship worldwide. But I\'ll check the nearby partk as well -- birches are one of the most common trees in this part of the world :)

Of course ; it\'s not like you need spices in English \"food\" - it\'d just be a waste of perfectly fine herbs. lol

Sure they do. :)

nay, I love cooking and therefore all the spices serve a particular purpose and never stay unused :) Although I have to admitt, I\'ve been trying oregano for basing, but didn\'t quite like it

the time is right

Margo the birch seeds are ready now here in the Uk I\'ve been picking them today and to separate the ivy like leaves from the seeds you can put them in a bowl and gently blow the lighter seeds away. Not hard work and cheap too

:D

I wouldn\'t argue with that...

The only \'additives\' that get used in large quantities are Extra-strength curry powder and weapons-grade chili powder. But they are used to disguise the taste..not enhance it:D

A litte late, but what the hell......

I seem to recall seeing in miniature in an old white dwarf that had a little tree on the base. Each leaf was individually cut out gold leaf. Not cheap, but really very, very realistic leaves can made that way.

it worked!

Sooo. Today I went to the park with birches and collected the seeds. It\'s amazing that someone discovered they could be used for basing, they look great! So thanks for advice, everybody :)

Can we see what it looks like? Were I\'m from (Western Canada) there are no birch trees. To be honest I can\'t even think of what a birch tree looks like.
