I seem to have fallen into a drybrush style of painting, so.........

Does anybody have any advice on some good hard wearing flat brushes of various sizes.

Thanks.

hi,

hard wearing... no.
For drybrushing I use the brushes from a package I can but at a DiY store (or similar): There are 15 brushes in the package for like 1 euro (sometimes for 2).

I simply take one of them, cut it flat (and shorter, so it's not as soft) and that's it. If I have less than 5 of them left I simply buy another package.

and they have dual use: :) because normally they are really soft they are good for stirring paint for airbrush applications (before they are cut to be used as a drybrush)

I was never satisfied with my drybrushing results. When I take a look at the results other people achieved I was disappointed with my missing skills. Those days, I was using old synthetic bushes. Then I tried the GW drybrushing brush. That one worked for me. A bit expensive, but it does what it should do. But I am using drybrushing mostly on furs, chainmail and bases.
Are you sure, that "drybrushing style of paintig" is the right way ? For gaming minis that's okay (although I prefer heavy washing).
For display miniatures, it just does not look right.

cheers, Egrimm

When dry brushing, I use makeup brushes. They are pretty tough and remarkably fine so help reduce the graininess you get with dryrbushing

Not sure what your standards for hard-wearing are but synthetics are probably the way to go in any case. The price is right too; if you could get sable or Kolinsky flats they'd work well for this but you probably wouldn't be able to stomach the cost.

Since you're in the UK I'd recommend having a look in a pound shop, cheap-as-chips brushes from a place like this might actually work as well as a name-brand equivalent here (at a fraction of the price).

For synthetics generally I'd recommend you keep an eye out in Lidl for one of their regular art-material promotions, you may have already missed the one for this year but bear in mind for the future.
