Ducknuck84's WIP Thread

Hi everyone,
somewhat new painter that is getting back into the hobby after 15 years away from it. Back in the mid 90's I started painting minis when I got interested in AD&D, granted I wasn't very good at it and mostly just slapped some Testors enamel on and called it a day. Probably did a little better when I painted some WH40k minis for a year or two when i was in high school but eventually fell out of the hobby do to time and what not.

Now that I've started back up my hopes are just to have fun with it and hopefully improve as I go along and i was told that a WIP was the best way to go about getting that feedback that will hopefully lead to that.

In my bare bones effort to start from the ground up been painting a lot of Skeletons that I had some how accumulated as I figured they are a good way to practice some basic techniques like layering, dry brushing, and washes.
Up next in this effort is this Skeletal War Dog From a DnD Chainmail Ahmut's Legion faction box I had in my Miniatures/Model stash. Nothing spectacular I know but it probably will have a few more steps on it then the skeletons I have been working on.
Probably going to have to do two washes on it. First one will be the normal light brown wash I use for when I'm painting bones with the Second I'm thinking ether a black or dark grey wash on the chain and maybe the spikes.
for the collar I haven't decided yet. Most pictures show it as black but I might go with a dark red just to add a little color to the mini.

@ KruleBear Thanks!

had a little time to work on the wardog and got my base coat for skeletons down as well as settling on blackish color for the collar. still need to go back and add the light black to the spikes, after that should be able to start the dry brushing. Although I think its gong to be a little tricky to dry brush the chain due to its location. Might have been easier to paint each part of the dog and then assemble him. Only problem is that with WotC minis I've found the fit to be horrendous. This mini had a huge gap between the two parts that I had to fill.

Welcome aboard! :)

bones colour our looks a bit dark to me - are you going to lighten him up? Cool little model, though.

Thanks! and Ya most of it is going to be covered up with an ivory color followed by a light brown wash and some light off white dry brushing. I like to start with the kind of brick red mix though as it adds a little more character rather then starting with just the ivory and at least to me helps make the skeleton look like its been in the ground for a little bit

Got the dry brush of ivory(although my stuff is called Corn Silk) on. next will probably be the metal on the spikes and chain before the brown wash
