Dullcoat - The Test

I recently got hold of a can of Testors dullcoat and finnally got around to using it.
I gave the minature one coat with it (as I have a limited amount) and was very impressed with the results. I took a picture before I sprayed it to compare so I thought I might aswell share the results.

I have not tried mine yet as it does say not to use over metallics I take it that this is not a problem afterall.

I have always found I like the look of metallics dullcoted, but you can always go back and use a brush on gloss if you feel you need to.

Um.... I see no difference actually. So I\'m not going to tell Joshua to try Marabu varnish which seems as dull as dullness it self to me.

no difference? look at the belt and the area beneath, the sleeve, the hood or the gem!
hm never heared of marabu dullcoat, where can you get it? i dont like the varnishs that overdull your minis like the new gw one, pretty useless stuff

I see that some areas a bit lighter, but I just thought that would be, well, lighting issues. Overall, I can\'t really say I see a really big difference.... maybe I\'m just ignorant

I got Marabu Varnish from Idee. http://www.coolminiornot.com/77663 was varnished with one coat of Marabu gloss and one coat of Marabu matte varnish.

@ Mosch- you say you cant see much difference ??? i\'m a bit surprised. I can tell you that its made hell of alot of difference, I was in shock when i first saw the results :wow:. Anyway here is a side by side comparission, please tell me you see some difference .

I think the right picture is lighter, that\'s just about every difference I see. Or maybe I see more differences and think they\'re just lighting issues. Sorry, but do keep in mind that I have... about 8 dioptrin, if I remember correctly. So maybe it\'s just my eyes.

On another note, what miniature is this? Never seen that one before, but I like it.

That minature is an Eldar Ranger 54mm from the GW inquisitor range. He comes with a different head to that one and you have to buy the hooded version seperately.
The issue with the un dull coated version is the light, you can see there is a lot more reflection on it.

I started using dull cote a while ago... blew me away. I like quite dark and drap paint schemes [generally] and it\'s always spoiled by the glossiness of protective varnish. Dullcote make it good. Go buy dullcote now
