Never used the paint on, just the spray. The spray is great at removing shine. I usually hit my figs with 2 light coats, then go back over the areas I want to have a little shine with Satin brush on. Gems get gloss.

I say spray for convenience.
I still have armory matt varnish to brush on and I occasionally use it, but usually I spray the dullcote then brush on glossy varnish on the parts I want shiny. It\'s just a time saver that way.

I spray, but I have a pot of brush-on as well. I use the brush-on for the parts of the mini which haven\'t been reached by the spray, or are particularly hard to dull down; if you put too many layers of dullcote (spray or brush-on), it will become shiny anyway so any additional varnishing to the main coat should be localised.
