Here\'s another fig from the slow, slow process of re-building my army. I have still yet to get the hang of the mettalics, I am practicing using the techniques laid out by Matt Sterbentz in his article. Fire away....

you need to increase the contrast on the metals.
shade with washes to get rid of the reflective qualites of the metals in any area you do not want them.

bring out the glare spots by adding metal medium by vallejo, it creates a super bright highlights to realy bring out your glare spots.

also, use colours like you would with nmm to give the metal more realistic reflections from the sky, ground and surrounding objects.

good metals are as much work as nmm, if not more.

here is a pic for referance (poo pic and only rank and file painting)
you can see the colours in the highlights as well as the contrast (they have been dullcoted so the metals aren\'t as reflective as they would be)

hope this helps :)

Yes that sure does help, thanks for the reference pic! I haven\'t sealed that model yet so I\'ll try to put some metal medium on the high points.

Thing is... I\'m just not practiced in finding the high an low reflective parts on models yet. I\'m speaking about flat objects here. I\'ll get better soon! Thanks again!

polish a mini and put it under a light then take a pic.
you will have your referance pic then on how the light reflects off the metal objects.

if you want any more referance pics just email me and i\'ll send some.

Metal medium!! Of course, that might work. I can\'t do NMM if my life depended on it but a metal medium might do the trick for me. There\'s an art store near where I work. I\'m pretty sure they have that for acrylics.

Thanks for the tip.
