Dwarf Tales Slayer-Slayer

I really loved this mini from the first time I saw it! I thought it had a lot of character and I just loved the idea of a Chaos Dwarf Slayer-Slayer.

I tried for a more ambitious base on this one, not sure if it "clicked" or not. Also I am pretty proud of the severed head. Not for any other reason than Mike/Dragonsreach had suggested using a yellow glaze on a severed hand on a mini I had tried. Also someone had suggested way back when (Actually... I think it was Mike) to use grey to highlight flesh for an older look. I tried both on that head, and I stole a little bit from a WIP by IllusionRip over on Chest of Colours (Uf you're gonna steal... steal from the best!) and I really want to experiment more with the yellow and the grey tones in skin. Felt pretty good. Anyway, fire away please!

Credit where Credit's due Scott.
No matter how much, or what, we suggest it all comes down to the guy at the end of the paintbrush doing the work.

This is a really good piece of work.
I pretty much think that you've nailed the severed head/dead flesh look.
The only points I'd pick out on this, and these are very very minor, are around the cuts need a touch of darker colour to make the edges stand out, and just a tiny shadow line around the fingers to strengthen them.

Yep this really good. Nice work on the colours and mood. The thing you need to work on right now is definition, meaning here the small sharp shadows that for example separates areas from each other. Some use black lining but I suggest you do a much deeper shade of the basecolour.

I think I know what you mean Sven. But lemme see if I do,

The one area I noted looked like it blended into the next was the thumb holding the severed head. Under the thumb I added a couple layers of thinned Black Brown to essentially black line the thumb where it meets the hair on the severed head. In the close up I can really see what i did and defo need to do that in further areas on the next piece. Is that what you refer too? Only instead of neccessarily using a very dark black brown or something you suggest a much darker shade of the base tone (in this case, a very deep flesh shade). Is that accurate?

Oh yeah and thanks a lot Mike/Dragonsreasch and Sven/Avelorn for the encouragement. You guys have helped me out quite a bit!

Yeah that's what I meant. If you look at the bandages around his arm for example it needs that deep shade between each strap. If you work from a midtone basecolour I suggest you do this in the shading step as a natural progression of building the shadows. the colour can of course vary if you do coloured shadows or complementary shading (like shading red with green).

Awesome job on this one mate, great to see chaos dwarfs on top :D

Maybe a bit of blood at the top of the 'axe' and around the severed head to add some edge to the mini but even without its a pretty brutal scheme and look, love it

How did you do this snow?

Snow was nothin' special. GW snow flock mixed about 1:1 with white glue. Next time I do it I would likely sprinkle the snow flock on the mini after I added the "wet" snow. Looks too melty I think as is for this fig.

Tre- Thanks man!
