EBay gripe/query

Ok, not too long ago I posted in the Trading Post regarding an old Citadel cleric I am looking for. He had appeared on EBay, I saw him one night and went back to bid the next day only to have him gone through another user\'s Buy It Now.

So, I post here that I\'m looking for him.

The next day, another copy of the same mini appears on EBay, from the same seller. This time I bid immediately. All\'s well.

However, after three days, when I log into EBay yesterday and go to check on him, the picture is now a *totally* different model. I email the seller, and he says he\'s been out of town for a few days, didn\'t change the picture, etc.

Any opinions on what to do?

I guess it\'s either a glytch in the system or your seller\'s a con man! Either way, proving it ain\'t easy. I\'d suggest you contact Ebay and see what they say (if anything!).

Just withdraw your bid using the EBay bid withdraw link. It will ask you for an excuse. Just tell the truth. Item had incorrect photo when you bid on it. I doubt the seller will bitch about it.

It\'s probably an honest mistake. Just withdraw or cancel your bid and be done with it.

I post all the time on ebay, and I can tell you, I\'ve never posted the wrong picture for an auction....honest mistake? That\'s a hard call, but even more difficult is dealing with ebay when you have a gripe. Save yourself the headache and withdrawal the bid. I would seriously consider before ever placing a bid on that persons items again.

I\'ve sold quite a bit on eBay, and can say that I, too have never made this mistake. However, I can easily see how it would happen if you use the \"Sell a similar item\" link and aren\'t paying close attention. I have accidentally forgotten to change the title a couple of times, and had to go edit it. (Of course, I noticed this within minutes, and got it fixed ASAP.)

I\'d say just withdraw the bid, and if the seller gets bitchy, then you know that he/she was probably trying to pull something. If not, then no harm done to either side.

I retracted the bid.

It\'s too bad, because
1) I had already won another auction from this person
2) I *really* want this figure for a project I\'m planning.

He has a near spotless feedback with almost 1000 entries, but this case just felt a little funny. *shrug*

after hearing your situation, it does sound a little like a con from that seller....

I\'ve sold minis a few times and NEVER ever had a wrong pic situation like that. Also I think one indicator of honest selling is clearly spelled out points of sale like when the person is going to contact you, payment and delivery... if I dont see that I usually dont deal with the person.

Unfortunately for me I\'ve only got a rating of \"1\" and that really affects buyers\' confidence level

I\'m not sure what\'s going on in your situation, but I can tell you that a seller cannot add, delete, or change a pic after there are any bids on the auction. I\'ve got about 700 selling feedbacks myself, and can say that the eBay system just doesn\'t allow it. I do think retracting your bid was the best idea, as it\'s only slightly annoying to the seller, and much better than winning the auction and not paying. I don\'t have all the info, but I would doubt he\'s a con artist based on the info given, probably just a misunderstanding.

I figured it was something odd. Like I said, the guy has plenty of good feedback - I can\'t say it seems like he would be up to chicanery.

However, I do know that while I am not the brightest bulb in the box, I\'m also not stupid enough to bid on the wrong item, nor dumb enough to check the auction every day and only on day 4 realize the picture was \'wrong\'. So *something* happened with the pic. *shrug*

I, as many of you probably know; do quite a bit of ebay selling. I use the sell similar option alot and although I have never left an old picture in an auction, I have come close on several occasions. I have also left incorrect titles a couple times and had to go back and fix them! :bouncy:

If your seller has 1000+ good feedback he probably isn\'t going to start posting bs auctions all of a sudden. I would try to get in contact with the seller and just withdraw my bid until then. The seller will understand...at least I would if I made a similar mistake.

One thing he could have done was change the filename of the picture in question. This only works if he used a link to the picture in question instead of using a pic uploaded to ebay\'s site, but say he uses a system something like this: auction one = pic1, auction two = pic2, etc, he might have accidentaly forgotten to move the correct picture over to where it should have been, and the auction used the old pic instead. I use descriptive names for my eBay auctions to prevent things like this happening, but its a way it could have worked without anything sinister on his part, just a mistake forgetting to upload the pic or something.
