ebay shenanigans

i can\'t believe the amount of people selling stuff on ebay as oop or rare, or even limited edition.
when they are available from the shops or online stores.

i saw some so called never released minis earlier, that you can buy from the component list on the uk gw store. or just buy a box set from the shop.

it\'s realy annoying to see gamers screwing over gamers.

There are a lot of shenanigans...but...

Companies make it worse by making some figures limited in Europe, whilst being freely available in America or vice versa. GW, I am looking at you!
Other companies subsequently put on general release minis which previously had \'limited\' status. Rackham, I am looking at you!
Of course it\'s not just these two, but they are the worst culprits IMO.

\"OOP,\" \"rare,\" and \"limited edition\" are and have been abused more often than \"pro painted.\"

It\'s always been buyer beware when dealing with online exchanges... That hasn\'t changed.

Well as long as there are idiots in the world, you will have people trying to take advatage of them. When buying on ebay people do your homework, research what it is you are buying and the person you are buying it from.

Caveat Emptor.

But there are a lot of people out there who are just aren\'t as savvy as us lot. They are the ones who think stuff is OOP, when it\'s still available.

I don\'t know, rare oop it is all greek ( no offense to Greece or anyone of Greek descent ) to me.

EBAY is a publicly owned corporation that started as a way to trade PEZ dispensers.

Auctions are ways to get the most money from a group of people interested in purchasing something. Pure Capitalism!
If you don\'t want it, don\'t bid. Don\'t blame someone for selling something by the rules. Would you get mad at Fredy for selling a painted mini for $1400? I mean, he is probably going to paint another one tomorrow. I don\'t see anyone bashing Reaper for making more Urban Sophies after some poor fools paid upwards of $100 for the naked variety. It had been extremely limited, now it is again available to interested collectors.

Bottom line, they should never pay more than it is worth to them. Just my opinion.

Cheers

hmm

AFAIK, the figures I sell on ebay (the ones I ask alot for) ARE not available anymore, even from Iron Wind metals so I don\'t feel bad :)
hehe

LavronYor, I don\'t think people are expressing anger at people who \"sell by the rules\", but at people who lie about what they\'re selling. That is unethical business practice pure and simple.

Well, count 1 here. That is a disgusting (but legal) business practice. I paid £17 for the GW BT Castellan (though I saw him sell for £25+ on many occasions, so I was fairly pleased), then about a year later he was available for £6. That\'s when I swore off buying GW altogether (I bought a box of termies and will be buying more, but they\'ve lost 80% of the money they used to get from me).

Dammekkos2, did you complain to GW, about this as I too think that is not fair, in fact its bloody disgusting.

No I didn\'t complain, I am essentially a pragmatist and I know it wouldn\'t do any good, I\'m voting with my wallet. (I did complain about them discontinuing much of the =][= line, but didn\'t get a reply).

The problem is when companies such as GW release something as limited editio they generally sell it at the same normal for it\'s type retail price.
We as collectors then push the value up by paying for the must have need it.. when we all generally have too much stuff to paint ( shiny syndrome)
GW often have stuff as Limited and then release it later.. True this can be annoying but it is the way it goes.
I agree with the philosophy that you are not been held at gunpoint to pay for this stuff.People aren\'t deliberately false advertising they are generally uninformed. They are just oing the same as I do using the popular search phrases to get more people to bid and hopefully make more money.
People bash ebay sellers saying rip off etc.. truth is there aren\'t many rip off merchants out there and there are hings in place to help protect buyers but as for price it\'s totally down to buyers what they pay.Nothing is too expensive when it\'s an auction.

What Narks me about it all tho is when I am trying to find RARE minis Sifting through all the crapto find my little gems.

I just keep hamilcar as a favorite seller. Once a month or so they put up 5-7 pages of auctions of old Citadel army packs and such. Good stuff, usually on the cheap.
