Edward Dumond WIP

Hey all. Here is a look at one of my current projects. I picked up some Reaper Master Paints and wanted them a try. He is fairly early on, with most of the basecoat done and a bit of shading. A few questions to the CMON masses--What would you shade the yellow with? Any suggestions on what to put on the back tabard? I was thinking something simple since I have very little experience freehanding. And would you go with a totally different color or stick with yellow outlined with a dark color to contrast?

His hair and facial hair has some highlighting, but from the angle I took the photo it is not evident. I am also going to try and get rid of the \"buggy\" look he seems to have (or maybe he\'ll just have a thyroid condition...)
Any other comments/critiques/suggestions are humbly requested. Thank you!

wow...was I off base...

I read the title of this thread, thinking it said....Edward Dumond RIP. Then I thought (before clicking on it) who the heck is Edward Dumond?....Then I thought he was the old white guy in \"Different Strokes\" with Gary Coleman..\"whatchoo talking bout Mr. Dumond\"...Then I thought, Oh thats sad that he died..Then I actually clicked on the thread....

Anyhow...I\'d suggest shading the yellow with a very thin wash of a golden brown color, ON the back tabard, maybe some sort of \'swirly ivy\' design, which would seem to go with his look. I\'d suggest a darker green for this.

Lastly, I\'d say a thin brown line underneath each of his eyes would make them seem smaller, and a bit more realistic.

I\'d mix a little light brown in your yellow that you\'ve used and apply that,darkening/lightening the mix as you see fit for subsequent shades.You could use a heart shape on the tabard.....I also misread....I saw BLACK tabard and was looking for half a minute before I re-read your post lol As he looks quite dandy a heart wouldn\'t be too much of a stretch and being a freehand amateur myself I\'ve employed this low,low tactic on a black and maroon empire handgunner,he retained his \'mean mercenary\' look and the red heart adds a nice visual bonus! I\'d say a green heart would look great on this.....do I sound obsessed?

Here is an updated pic--what do you think of the greens and yellows? More highlighting needed? I have done most of the browns as well. I have yet to do the metallics and will be hitting them next.

Hi...seems to look good so far The yellow is nicely brightened on his thighs and calf muscles. I hate yellow lol Good stuff!

Nice and flashy! Looks like a real dandy.

Only thing I would suggest (and I think its above somewhere - read this a few days ago) is to add some black liner about the eyes or something, or maybe a darker brown. Won\'t give him such the google eyed look.

That said, there are people in the world that look like that.

Yes, the greens and yellows look much better in the update.

I agree about a thin line under and probably over the eye. You\'d be surprised how dark that line really is on people, but I\'d go with brown rather than black as he wouldn\'t be wearing mascara. (might try a very dark, almost black, green just to draw upon the clothes color, but brown is safer).

For the back tabard I would first take a dark green and very carefully draw a thin line separating the green and yellow. I think it would help the yellow trim look like trim and pop.
For decoration I would take that same color and line-draw a Fleur-de-lis at a 45 degree angle in each corner, tilted toward the center, with the base merging with the yellow trim, then fill it in with yellow.

Oh, also put a dark line where his hat meets his head.
That looks like a very fun mini and a bold and uncommon color scheme that actually works well.

I agree, the colors are much richer now.

I like the Fleur-de-lys idea. It would really help break up that flat area.
