Eldar Ethereal Stalkers WIP

So im seriously bored of Marines and like the look of eldar. Picked up this model for 20p!!! at a boot sale which turned out to be Eldrad. See pics.

This will be a wraith guard army, iv currently got ten wraithguard, army box, wraith lord and dark reapers coming. Here is the colour sceme i settled for.

Hi MOF, I'd suggest switching the colour of that red purse to green, to pick up the colour of the gems at the top of the model. Other than that, nice first step on your Eldar army. Do you intend to fine the blends on this character fig or is it consistent TT that you're going for?

I feel like the face in the staff could use a little bit more definition. It took me a moment to even be able to pick it out. Really love your color scheme. Nice gem, too.

I shall change the pouch. The whole idea of this army is to paint each figure to the best of my ability. BPI how could i blend the colours? Anything painted brown is the base colour for the gold wraithbone, the staff has been neglected thus far.

Hi MOF, it's the purple that's jumping out at me most as needing smoothing out. Mainly because Warlock Purple really doesn't play very nicely with Liche Purple (Worm Purple). Been there & done that I'd stick with the Liche as the basecoat, shade it back with addition of black (will also be darklining around the grey pouches, etc. as you shade to aid with definition), then highlight up by mixing it lightly either with a blue (Space Wolf perhaps) or a fleshtone (Elf Flesh). That alone should help it to sit together more happily & will really help the brown/yellow stand out nicely. I'd be wary of bringing the purple up to white highlights as it'll steal focus from the head. Give it a bash on one of the new plastics you've got as a trial run before overpainting your work here though.

For actual blending technique advice I'd check the Sticky Thread or tutorials

The brown bit coming out of the back of his head & on the chest looks fine, the soft blue on the sword looks nice, perhaps push toward white at the tip?

Once you've found the colour scheme that you're happy with the rest of the troops should fall into place quite quickly. Keep it up :good:

Thanks bpi, iv a spare guardian somewhere il try it out on. The white highlight is tentacle pink, the flash from camera musta glared a bit.

Here is a what iv done tonight but have had a few beers so going to stop.

First wraithguard, nice minis but bloody expensive. Ten of them to paint.

And im going to use the new sorceror from the Island of blood fantasy range.

Hi MOF, try putting a little piece of white kitchen roll (paper towel) or similar over the flash on your camera, I've read about people doing it before to kill some of that glare

Tried a bit of this blending lark, for the record im not confident at this and NEVER experiment. The paint job so far was lich purpel, warlock purple, pink using the next colour up to highlight. It looks really harsh, especially the wraith lord. So BPI i fully hold you responsible for the next pics. He was done using liche purple, then a mix of it with elf flesh. Im quite happy with it! lol

i use the mobile too i find its a lot better if you dont have to have the flash on i just take my stuff to the best lit room in the house and put all the lights on. you picked a real tough colour to start your blending career with nothing like jumping in the deep end oops pun alert lol

Blending's about 100% better already. See, this is why you need to experiment! Aye , ok you might completely f*ck it up, but you learn somat from it. Looks like you've plenty of potential, just use it! =P

Hi MOF, nice start Next time, flat purple basecoat. Then mix the purple 50:50 with black, then water it down a bit. If you were to put a wash over it, you can imagine where it would all settle. Don't wash it! Just paint the dark mix into all of those recesss & shady areas. Then paint in the purple 50:50 with flesh as you did on the one above. As a very vague rule of thumb, try to end up with the model 1/3 of each of the three colours. Certainly don't have the highlight colour meeting with the shade colour everywhere (a problem I used to encounter a lot) as you lose all of your basecoat colour & the graduation you're aiming for Nice neat 3 colour layering is a great way of painting with a speed effective enough to complete larger projects (says Mr. Slow ).
