Eldar Harlequin kill-team

Hey guys, I'm painting a kill-team that will perhaps show up on a kill-team board at GDUk 2010 for you to play with.

i'll get right on with the pics

Not a lot to show yet, I know

The diamond pattern is more or less finished (some minor touching up to do) while I haven't even started to paint anything else yet. It took me a couple of attempts to pull it off. Personally I think it is the greatest challenge I've faced, painting wise, as it requires a lot of forethought and a pair of steady hands... On his leg you can see the guidelines I paint up before I start applying colour, I have to touch them up a bit since they're a little sloppy. These are actually a lot harder to paint that I first thought they'd be! The curved surfaces and the folds in the cloth really messes them up sometimes... For the curious I can reveal that the diamond pattern on his leg will be black and white similar to the original GW paintjob

oh, and credit where credit is due, I was heavily inspired with the colors by the awesome death jester painted by muhani (

)

Now it's just a "simple" matter of repeating this process on the rest of them, though colours will differ slightly from each one. At least I think it will, I'm not entirely decided yet.

Thoughts, tips, suggestions, feedback?

That looks good to me but some of the black lines are a bit thick. Maybe I would also give one more highlight on some diamonds.

Can't wait to see the rest of this. Personally, the Death Jester is my favorite model across the entire GW range, evidence of Jes' brilliance. That said, it is truly a painter's model. I keep staring at mine, basecoated, but never seem to get around to actually slap paint on him. I think the Harlies intimidate me.

Anyway, very nice color choices so far!

Quick update. Pretty much done, some minor things left like varnishing and a few touch-ups but basicly the death jester is done.

I know the black and white diamonds aren't perfect...

The rest are coming along nicely, I'll upload some wips next weekend.

That looks really great. I really am digging on the colored diamonds. You're making me want to start doing my DJ again...and I agree, the diamonds on the legs are hard to get "perfect" but yours came out really nice. I also really like the bone you've done on the mask. Only thing is, his gun and coat look a bit unfinished--don't know if you intend to do more since you said all you had were some minor things to do. I'm also personally not a fan of the red gems/accents for the colors your chose, they seem to clash a touch with the colored diamond pattern. Looking forward to seeing this finished up, and the other ones that you've started.

Really nice work you're showing here. I really like the Harlequins, but was unpleasent surprised to find out that the diamond pattern had to be handpainted and was not sculpted in the models.
I really have deep respect for painters who can handpainted such patterns and also heraldry.

And again I am looking to a very impressive painted diamond pattern. It really looks good, with nice shadows and highlights.

I can only agree with other comments about the coat. It's looking to dull and black. Ty to ive the basecoulour a "warm black" tone by mixing with dark brown, blue or even purple.
Only paint the shadwos in pure black.

I think when you gove the coat som more attention, you are gonne have a stunning painted model.

Keep up the good work.

Best regards,

Eelco
