Eldar Ranger

Not so happy with this, in fact I rushed to finished it cos I wasn\'t enjoying painting so much.

Main problem is the yellows and bleached bone... They go down so grainly. I think the probably is maybe 1 of a few things:

* not shaking the bottle well
* paint isn\'t thin enough
* I suck (probably this one haha).

Any feedback is welcome of course.

I have similar problems with both those colors...Always seem a bit grainy too.....Try some acrylic extender if you can find some...maybe that would help.

I think the paint scheme works with this....It has kind of an Anime look to it.

Very clean and neat but could definitely use more shading.

One tip for yellow that works for me is to thin the yellow paint with yellow ink instead of water or FFF.

I\'ll give the ink a try too - though I found if I thin it MORE with water I don\'t get the grainy effect as much - I pay a lot of attention to my brush and noticed when it was a little thicker it was actually grainy on the brush...

Someone else suggested using a mithril silver undercoat - interesting concept but I\'m always open to try something new! :D

I\'ll be painting the next one tomorrow - check my WIP thread for updates.

Hmm Extender eh? I bought some stuff a while ago, but it\'s just a matte medium, as well as liquitex slo-dri... I haven\'t used them at all due to everyones advice to get used to using water! :)

AH! 2 of my best rended colours!
For yellows always start with a white undercoat since it\'s a very light and tempremental colour :) I usually start with a light earthy brown with a little of a darker yellow mixed in, the trick is to use a fair bit of water to create a sort of \"thick wash\" ( if you get me) and gradually layer lighter mixed in yellows untill your happy. If you want a really light highlight mix some white in at the later stages.
Funnily enough the same applys to bleached bone effects, but change the dark yellow to lighter earth tones ( like graveyard earth and kommando Kakhi) through to bleached bone, same applys with highlights.
Well thats my way of doing it, and I do get exellent results. Maybe it\'s a bit obvious to a lot of you but I still hope it helps some :)

I think my problem is, I start from a black undercoat (this isn\'t a problem) but I try to apply the colour I want DIRECTLY over black, is it a good idea (essential?) to build up the colour slowly from a darker tone working towards the one I want?

This makes more sense anyway since it gives you a more natural level of shading rather than painting a mid-tone then highlighting.

Maybe I should stop being lazy, take my time, and take more pride in work ;)
