Empire Flagellant \"Moses coming down from the Mountain\"

I dont usually post here, but as this is my first painted mini for 6 months, after painters block, i\'d appreciate your honest thoughts on him.:D and tips for future paint jobs,
Its such a release to finally get back to the brushes.
Its a Empire plastic Flagellant, that I thought looked like Moses, so made the base to fit.
The flail is made from barbed wire as the original looked too big, and also a first for me in book writing. I must say I really enjoyed painting this one. I\'m in the process of making a decent base for him......

Looks really good, Mark! I think changing the flail was a good thing as the original one, as you say, is too clumsy. I think it might have been a good idea to change the pole he\'s carrying in the other hand, as that one doesn\'t really look convincing. I think something not so perfectly straight and with a bit more texture would look better.

The writing in the book looks good on the left side (from the viewers point of view) but a bit smudged on the other. So, in the future, do what you did on the left side! :D

I think you could work a bit more with the face too. You seem to have deeper shadows and more contrast on other skin areas, which makes the face look a bit flat and expressionless. Also, and I know it\'s a bit difficult to achieve, I think that spots of white in the eyes would intensify his expression a lot, as it would draw the viewer\'s eyes to the face.

But, it\'s altogether a nice looking miniature and it\'s great seeing more stuff from you again. I wouldn\'t have guessed you had had a 6 month hiatus from looking at this miniature.

Thanks Ritual, exactly what I was after some good critic.

I agree with all of that, and had not thought of most of these points, but I can see how much better he would look after doing them.

The skin came out well for me and thats why I left it, just in case I ballsed it up, but I can see another highlight would help the face.

Don\'t forget about the shadows! Good contrast is not just about pushing the highlights. I think deeper shading between nose, eyes and eyebrows would help.

I always get that wrong lol.
I\'m wanting to try and work on my GW Giant\'s face to try and get all these points better:D

Freak lol whats with the negative waves man, I thought your last mini, had some very nice touches.
